I'm definitely interested in both this and the Persona 2 IS translation..I haven't played any SMT games yet, but I've seen my friend play Nocturne and it looks awesome. I'll be watching these Megaten projects closely, I can assure you....I want my first Persona playthrough to be as complete and accurate as can be.

I'm almost desperate for this to get done, I love the original Persona. I purchased the Japanese version of the game just so I could experience the Snow Queen Quest and play the SEBEC quest in its normal difficulty. Playing this game in English in its original form would be fantastic.
So yeah, there are plenty of people who would like to see it happen, make sure to include those lurkers as well. ^_^
Edit: Is this project still in the works? This thread has been pretty dead for a while...

Hi all, first post.
I just dropped by to say how much I appreciate the work you guys are doing and to offer my services.
I just finished playing through Persona after years of being separated from this work of art (I got the bad ending BTW). I noticed after a few minutes of playing that my favorite character, Yuki had wandered off and dissapeared early in the game. This lead me to the Snow Queen, then to the Japanese version, and finally here. The bottom line: I want to play the Snow Queen quest in English and I am willing to help or at the very least pump you guys for information.
I know almost nothing about psx modding, but am a quick study when it comes to computers. In fact, I don't think I've played a game without eventually hacking it in one way or another. I have all the free time in the world, except the occasional homework for Devry, so I'm more than available. I'll be studying up on psx hacking and checking back here every now and again for news and updates. Maybe someone could point me towards some tutorials or give me the basics for changing the Japanese text to English? Thanks.

Did anyone manage to dump the script yet? *cough* I did*cough* Ok, let's unveil the secret. I've just wrote a partial script dumper for Ibunroku Persona, just for the hell of it (got my copy of the game a couple days ago). It dumps all the main script, but I haven't looked yet at all those floating strings for items, spells, etc... For the moment it can't dump any kanji, only kana and symbols. I've already posted a Kanji help ad, so they will probably get done while the works on IS proceed. I'll keep you informed if there are any news.

Good job Gemini, just as expected. I haven't identified all of the kanji yet. So i think it would take much more time to identified it all. Maybe if someone could help identifying all of the kanji through Gemini's script dumper, that would be greatly appreciated. Or if someone already starting it, give an info on this thread if possible.
Oops, my mistake. Sorry Guys, I was assuming that Gemini is making a script dumper application for megami ibunroku and he would submit it in here, it turned out that maybe he's creating it for his own personal use. Sorry Gemini, I should've checked it first.
And in the Script Help and Language Discussion board, there's someone already identifying the kanji. Thanks to Gemini for that great post.

Sorry Gemini, I should've checked it first. Actually, that is the current plan. Though I'm still considering the idea of handling all by myself, but you know, I'm not a big Ibunroku fan so I may give up soon. >_> I'm starting to like the game a little (I love the funny moments, like when Masao finds his mother in Rosa Candida and she starts calling him Mar kun), but I can't really stand all those damn random encounters. Anyway, BRPXQZME and DarthNemesis completely identified all the kanji, so here goes an actual sample of dialogue dump.

Can't you make them less frequent by hacking? *dies*

Wow, I never thought you would give in and dump the script Gemini. You are my hero. Glad your starting to appreciate the game a little (I have a huge soft spot for it as you know ), I think it's one of the only games where's I'd hands down play the Japanese version over the English one.

I've been making a lot of progress; too bad you guys beat me to the script.
I have a question for you Gemini: How did you get the image with the entire font? I must have looked through every image file in the entire game, yet could not produce such an image of the entire font. Am I doing something wrong?
I finally figured out what you guys mean by kanji. Must be that set of nearly 3000 characters. I'm halfway through making the table, though it seems you guys are far past that stage. Either way, I'm here to help.

I have a question for you Gemini: How did you get the image with the entire font? It's stored in FONT.BIN (heh). The format is 16x16 1bpp, so you can dump that with a simple feidian script.

Lol, right after I posted that I figured it out. 'Cept feidian doesn't like me. Thanks!
Edit: Got it now; when all else fails, try another computer.

Unfortunately that won't work with item and spell names (probably monsters, too). :/ They are all fixed length, which means extra hacking for allowing longer names. >_> And 16x16 VWF isn't very easy to do on this game...
