The project would have been finished several months ago if my translator didn't disappear, that's why I announced it. I *was* sure it was going to be complete. That worked for Dracula X and ToP after all.

So, that happens to every hacker doing a translation at least once if not on every project they do. Lord knows, it's happened to me enough times. That doesn't mean you need to drop the project.  Just find a new translator and continue on. Wink

So, was that the only reason for you to abandon the project?
A translation cannot exist with the hacking alone. So yeah, for me no translator=instant drop, since there is no reason to continue to work on it when you know the project has no future.

Didn't happen with those 2 projects I mentioned above. And they took less than 6 months each.

Well if you are seriously going to scrap it, so be it, this will get done, it has peeked my interest, and as long as someone is willing to translate it (which there seems to be enough people who want it done) and if enough people are serious about it (I care not about that, but I want everyone that actually wants to go through with it to know how massive this is) then what the hoof, lets get to work.

First and foremost, the re-translation of Persona 1 is NOT dead. I am working on it. I admit I have been keeping awfully silent.

I been working on re-translating Persona 1, but it has been slow for a few reasons....

 1) I do not have the dumped script because my hacker left on me..... he started to help, built a tool to help view some of the in game text and then he bounced....

 2) I am in my final university semester and been a bit busy (working on translating the game by actually playing it and writing the text down and then translating it... a VERY slow process.)

I need the text dump in order to move fast.

I can not learn how to do the hacking myself because I simply do not have the time to spend learning how to hack. I can translate, that is what I am good at and it is what I want to do. I have decided to ONLY translate. At the start of this project I thought I could learn how to do the hacking myself, but I stopped thinking like that.... there was simply too much to learn. My hacker leaving me was a bummer, but I am still translating. I also want to take my time with the translation because the entire point is to make a BETTER translation than the original US release.

If you want to help, send me a PM or something (email preferred, more likely to see it). I will not often post updates of the translation progress because I find it to just be a waste of time. The time I spend writing posts can be time spent translating... I have to translate Japanese books for my university as well as translating a second Japanese book for a competition and then I translate Persona for fun.... so I spend an awful lot of time looking at Japanese!

If I can get my hands on a text dump soon I will post an update on the 22nd of this month. If I miss an update that means I did not get a text dump and I am still translating the slow way.

PS, I been contacted by a few new people about this project, so it may pick up some pace soon! I am glad to see people are interested.

I don't know if simple messages of morale support and encouragement can really mean anything when  it is logistical support you need the most, but I'm delighted to hear that you are continuing with your work on Persona. I wish there was something I could do to help, but I'm not any kind of a hacker.

Ok then, Wooty woot to persona, I am going to have a look around and see what I can dig up, then we get to the technical and fun stuff, Grey has not posted in a while, any input he could throw my way would be great appreciated!

I have sent Grey an email, as he has some insight into this project already, I do hope he takes me up on the offer.

It will not just be placing the American text over Japanese text, I am certain that the common goal is to retranslate the entire Japanese game, more difficult, but very well worth it.

I wrote to Grey, but he does not answer letters. When he answered me last time, it had problems with the computer and the Internet. It can yet has adjusted them. Therefore there are no news from us. I too am interested in translates of games on MegaTen. Since I am one of Russian fans of this Universe. Now we finish translate SMT for SNES on the Russian. But with pleasure we will help with translates of Persons Wink

BoreS My friend, I would be glad if you helped, anyway you could. After you complete your own project, feel free to help us in any way you can.

This project is to big for 2 or 3 people all alone.

Sorry Guys, i know it's been along time  Smiley. These past few months have been a really pain for me, my internet connection still hasn't stable yet, so i might not be online all the time like i used to, but forget about that. Right now I'm on a job, so time is really not so friendly with me right now. Don't worry, i can still manage that  Smiley. And there's a little problem with my project right know, i was using the  tabular to build my font tables, until i realized all the games i have been tested so far was an English script only. In the English version of Persona i have successfully dumped the script, it's about 3.2 mb script dump. The process was easy because of we can easily understands the letters we were using.

Now in the Japanese version, all goes well with the Hiragana and Katakana, chisai, mix kana, you name it. But there's Kanji that's not included in the Tabular, and after i put it one by one on the tabular (using the 16 bit insert). Not to mention I really don't know a single word about Japanese. This process really takes my time a lot, so is there anyone out there knows the line up or the ABC of the kanji word? Or better yet, a software that could make my life easier to input these kanji i would really thanks the dude.

So far not all Japanese version of Persona script are readable yet, just a little more kanji input and it'll be complete so i can perfectly dump it.

And to Next Gen Cowboy and Corey, i would gladly take your offer. But like I said, I still need to input the complete kanji letters before i do that.

Oh, and BoreS. Sorry i haven't been able to reply your emails yet. But if you want, you can have my English version of Persona dump. Not sure it can help you much, but I'm sure you can translate it to Russian if you want. But the snow queen quest will still be unavailable, unless you can hack it by using the gameshark code (that can enable the snow queen quest) as a basic starters to re-enable it in the US version. I will upload it if someone interested in it, because I think it will be quite some time before I'll be able to dump the Japanese version.

Grey,

Check this out. This free dictionary has all the kanji in a very user-friendly interface.

Plus you can edit, copy and paste them (like in a regular word processor) or paste them in a search engine for a quick translation.

This dictionary helped me a LOT when I played Persona2:Tsumi.

I really wish this turns up to be a complete clean translation of the japanese version, as it would be much more stable(and I'm not an expert on this)  than re-translating the american version.

If you need help indentifying the kanji, take a screenshot of all the kanji and post them in the script and language help board here. You're sure to get help there.

Got it BoreS, but you'll have to wait a little while though Wink.

Thanks mansoor, this one pretty neat. I also got a new kanji dictionary called Jishop. Both of these dictionary will help me a lot. I just found out the proper line up, i just hope i didn't miss a single kanji letter that i inserted on the tabular. So give me a little more time guys, i hope this will speed up the script dump a little more faster.

Sure Pennywise, thanks for reminding me. I almost forgot about that, been looking in there and I've found some useful information a moment ago Grin.
