I think you both could do very good things. Language barrier was in place here so lets just let bygones be bygones.

Gladly BoreS  Smiley, I also wanna say sorry because of my tension back then. And i'm glad you really got the thing on your patch. Thanks for the tips for my patch bugs, i knew your patch must be better than mine just by looking at your screenshots on that Karma Society Forums. Btw, have altered your opening movie yet? I hope you already have, if not, you can take a look at my patch and see it as a references (might not be of much help though  Grin) so that your patch on the Persona US will be more complete  Wink.

And i need to know what else are you gonna change in the persona US, i already knew that you're working on the characters sprites, is it in-game or battle mode? Or maybe both? That would be better. And are you also changing the characters voices in battle mode? Because if you somehow doesn't include what i already mention there, i can just take what's not on your change list.

For example, if you considered not to take the characters voices patch, then i'm the one who's gonna make the patch. So it will be much faster this way, besides not everybody wants to play with the original characters voices, so they can choose to apply it or not. But if you wanna do it all, that's even better, that means i can concentrate on Retranslation and dumping the script.

Meaning i don't have to do what your already gonna do because it's pointless since your gonna do it, hey i'm not the type of person that always try to prove anything, all i care is there's a patch for the game and all of the Persona Fans can enjoy it. So brief me ok, PM or Email.

Don't worry, if there's anything i can help (or me need help  Grin), just ask okay. Oh and about the person who's gonna do the translator, there is one guy who already offered to help me (if you read my previous post, you'll know the guy). But since it take time for me to dump the script, i told him to wait. Besides he currently also got his own project that could took 2-3 month or less, that also give me a time.

But if you already have a dump of the script you can ask him directly or ask for help in this forum, I'm sure you'll found one. I'll keep you in touch ok  :thumbsup:.

ps: I also wanted to thank piotyr, thanks man  Grin.

Thanks Grey Smiley
Now I will in detail write that changes my patch.
1). Portraits of characters in the dialogues, ALL characters. And main and minor.
2). The initial screen. (Has shown a few amateur performance if you looked my patch, you will understand about what Wink
3). The menu on the initial screen.
4). Portraits of characters which are shown after game passage.
5). Inscription Kazuma Kaneko in a caption (There it has been written Kazma Kaneko)
6). Has completely painted over in black colour the loading screen. (In the Japanese version it in general is not present)
It is everything, while. Video did not touch, but would like to learn, how you have changed it Smiley
Now I work over change of sprites of characters, and it is simple and in fight, these are same.
I think to you it is necessary to undertake at first translation, and video and voices can be made then. Or if you tell as it to make, I will take it on myself. And how you think of association of patches? Can we will make one, with your and my changes. I can lay out at us on a site where first my patch lays also. Not to produce almost identical patches. What you will tell? I have now begun still translation Shin Megami Tensei on GBA and I supervise translation Shin Megami Tensei on SNES. In the future I plan to begin translation Soul Hackers. Simply at us a problem with translators from the Japanese Sad

Excellent progress  :thumbsup:, to me your patch is already almost perfect. Except for the opening movie to match the title, the rest of the movie does not have to be change. If you want to know how to change the opening movie, it is very simple. There are 2 ways to do this, and i will tell you through PM  Wink.

And if you want to combine our patches go ahead, just credits me for the opening movie will be just fine. I maybe could changed it, but you changed it far more better so i think the rest of the credits should go to you. And i agree about your opinion so that we would not produce an almost similar patches, of course you can put it at the site of your first patch available considering i had a hard time uploading a file to the host site (my connection sometimes goes really slow, i think i have to changed my old connection cable  Grin).

Okay, i guess you were right about the characters voices, it can be serve as an add-on patch later. So i will concentrate on Re-translating it to English, right now i'm trying to dump all the separated script inside the cd. It's been separated into several files inside the cd, it's contains dialog script, mini games, name of the town & buildings. As soon as i've dump it all, i'll try to contact the translator, so wait for my news okay  Wink.

The scrambled text was just a test, because of my limited knowledge in VWF and coding. I think i still need to read and learn about the VWF more deeply. I would appreciate it if someone gives me an extra input on this VWF implementation.
If the game is coded like Innocent Sin, implementing a VWF is just a matter of changing a static add value into a dynamic one. The usual procedure to do that is:
1) Make a savestate of the game with ePSXe (or directly dump vram from pSX);
2) Decompress the savestate (rename to something.gz and use Winrar on it, do nothing in case you are using a vram dump), and then open it with agemo's Vram viewer and set it to 4bpp gray scale;
3) Browse around (use A S D W) the file and you should be able to find something resembling a font or the sentence on screen;
4) If your sentence is completely rendered in Vram it could be a problem, mostly because some games tend to draw everything there and then render on screen using a single big sprite for each line of text. In case you have the whole font in vram or the game uses a multi-sprite format (i.e. not a single sprite for each line), follow the next step;
3) Download PCSX debugger version or pSX and set a read breakpoint in ram, where a string that is going to be displayed on screen is stored. The emulator will immediately stop the moment that string will be loaded;
4) Make a ram dump (PCSX savestates can be used in this case, just decompress them with Winrar and remove 0x9020 bytes at the beginning), disassemble it with your favourite disassembler (IDA is highly recommended) and jump to the addess PCSX/pSX shows;
5) Time to understand where the game increments the global X coordinate for the sprites. Once you know where it is, change it so that it will add a variable value (using a width table is the key).

Here an exaple of vwf code from my Innocent Sin hack:
Code:
vwf_table: equ 0x800680EC
DrawLargeChar: equ 0x800198C8

org 0x800680A8
jal DrawLargeChar ; set gfx for the current character
move s2, a0 ; copy the current character for later use

la v0, vwf_table ; width table address
lui t2, 0xFF00 ; --
add v0, s2 ; current character width address
lbu t6, -0x20(v0)   ; load width
li s2, 0    ; --
move t4, s4 ; --
addiu t3, sp, 0x10  ; --
move t1, s4 ; --
lhu t5, 0x20(sp) ; current x
sh fp, 0xA(s3)    ; current y
addu v0, t5, t6   ; new x for the next sprite
sh t5, 8(s3)   ; store current sprite x
j 0x800195A8   ; back to the original code
sh v0, 0x20(sp)   ; update the current x with the new value

I'm pleased to hear that you're working on Persona. I've recently been playing and loving Persona 3, and I'd love to see a decent translation of the first Persona game. I've heard that the Atlus localisation for the first Persona on PS1 left something to be desired.

 *** Hey Gemini I emailed you about your Persona 2 IS project; I'll help if you still need it.

Now about Persona 1. I have an understanding that the USA version has a horrible translation. I am willing to re-translate it, however I am unsure how to text dump CD images and do a lot of the hacking. I would like to begin a new project (unless someone has started one and wants me on board), the re-translation of Persona. I own the Japanese Persona so that's not a problem. I have studied Japanese for 4 years and have a Bachelors degree in it, and I have also lived and studied in Japan. Japanese is not a big problem, but.... I am faced with a few problems:

1) I have never beat Persona, which mean I am translating a game I have little knowledge of. I have some knowledge because one of my best friends is a Megaten freak and I watched him beat Persona and he talked a lot about it (which is why I bought it). Persona deals with some twisted stuff; even with a fluency in Japanese it is not easily understood (which means good practice for me).

2) Little hacking knowledge, so I can't dump the text or anything as of yet. However I will just play the game and translate as I go for the time being. When I find a hacker who can assist me this problem won't be so bad.

3) Time. I have about 6 months of fairly free time. However, after the next 6 months I will enter a period of absolute uncertainty. That does not mean I will stop the project, it just means I may drop off the radar for a little while until I get straightened around again (I will be moving to Taiwan, South Korea or back to Japan... undecided at this moment).

This will begin my own project. I am also interested in helping Gemini out in Persona 2 IS. So, I may be doing two projects at once. My main inspiration is to help translate so my good Megaten freak friend can enjoy the games, but I also want to get more Japanese practice.

If anyone has comments, concerns, advice or any words of encouragement hit me up with an email, which is theonlycorey AT hotmail DOT com. I am a new user on the forum and I am not sure how often I will check the boards, so your best bet is to hit me with an email.

This may be a good year for the Persona fans out there.

I have begun the translation by hand (copying the Japanese text from the game itself and translating, since I don't know how to text dump). I am trying to learn how to do the technical stuff too. If I have to I will do it all myself, but it will take a while haha. I have emailed some people about the project as well.

This is fun. I had no translators for over 9 months, and, including you in the project, now I have 3. xD I guess Innocent Sin will be my next project on the to-do list.
