Hi guys, i'm new here. I don't know if it's worth it or not. This is my learning project that already in deep freeze in my hard drive long ago, about two years ago i started tinkering both of this games (Revelations Persona & Megami Ibunroku Persona). I was trying to take the english script of Persona US to Persona JP, but then i stopped because of real life activities. Note that i was still learning back then, and i'm still learning to this very moment.

So i stopped that work and keep it in my hard drive for two year, until not so long ago i found an information on the net about the translation of Persona 2 innocent sin by Gemini & his team. I was excited of course, but the one that really pushes my interest again was khellkurono at youtube's website asking about patching the Persona jp with the Persona US's dialog. So i started decompresses this old project, recalling my memory of the addresses, researching (again), back then it took two month for me to find addresses of the script dialog inside the cds, separated into several files on the disc, lucky for me i manage to remember a bit.  Well, i decided to take a shot at it again, nothin' much though and this is the screenshots i took several days ago:

US Version

JAP Version

If someone interested, I have recently made the ppf patch of these both projects, wait till i find a good site to upload my files.

Well if you can make it so you can insert the dialog that would but great but understand the English version of the original persona was horribly HORRIBLY butchered and really if you want to do any real good work you gotta get a translator to do your dirty work dialog wise.
But the idea of getting this game retranslated and reinserted into the original game with a well done script and intact snow queen quest is highly of intrest to me and if you could bring that about you would be among the megaten legends Smiley.
Even in its butchered state the plot of the original persona really spoke to me and was quite deep with more plot twists than I expected from a game of its time(Much less its poor translation) so it is really worth a re translation.

Note other than the mark black thing one of the biggest things about the poor translation is they made the game take place in the united states which was awkward seeing as you never really see any stripmalls like the one in the game here much less the school uniforms.

I'm confused. All of those screenshots look like they're from the Japanese version. Either that or you found a way to change the character portrait in the US version. >.>

He is taking the script from the english version and putting it in the japanese version thereby bypassing most of the hacking. Rather than hack in the new portits or the snowqueen quest he only needs to put the script in. I really hope he gets a retranslation but if he doesn't this is still a step in the right direction.

Yeah, but if you look at the screenshots, it doesn't make any sense.

One of them looks like the font and stuff from the US version (including a VWF, I think), with the Japanese portraits. The other has the US font, but it doesn't have a VWF, and has scrambled text.

Sorry for the lack of information, most of what you guys said were true  Wink. To make it easy to understand, I'll explain the changes on each version that I've tinkered/copied below:

US VERSION :

Changes:

1. Change the (blue) title screen with the original (yellow) Japanese version.

2. Copied half end of the opening movie from the Japanese version since I've also taken the Japanese title screen, because at the end of both version just before the title screen appeared the movie will show us a glimpse of the 'would be appear' title screen matching with their own title screen colors (Japanese is yellowish while US is like blue and red). It's not funny when we see the fade out of the movie with blue and red and suddenly changed into a yellow title screen of the Japanese version.

3. I also changed the characters portraits (like Piotyr said) from the Japanese version.

In progress:

1. Characters voices (in battle mode), some people liked the US version's characters voices. Me? I'd prefer the Japanese version, i think I'm gonna make separate patch for this voices in the future. So the people who prefer the English one can still use them.

2. Characters Graphics (when in gameplay and battle mode) notice the background on the US ver. screenshot where mark was talking (Main Character is still in red haired, mark still wearin' a cap), I wanna change their attributes to their original Jap ver.

3. I'm still trying to find the missing offsets of the snow queen quest that has been taken out by Atlus based on the gameshark code & the Japs ver. that already spread on the Internet, hopefully i can recover it and repatch the English version so the quest will be playable on it. I think I'll have to dump the Japanese script and find a translator here. Total Re-translation can be possible, but after i finish transferring the original US script to the Japanese version though.

JAPANESE VERSION:

Changes:

1. Copied half beginning of the opening movie from the English version, so the text will be in English on the Japanese version of opening movie. Also copied the rest of the movie in the English one's to the Jap's ver. (English speaking Philemon) except the movie for the snow queen quest which still in Japanese language even on the US ver. (which proof Atlus doesn't have enough time to release the quest on time).

In Progress:

1. Trying the VWF implementation and changing the TOC of the CD's etc, the English Script are 3x bigger than the Jap's ver. The scrambled text was just a test, because of my limited knowledge in VWF and coding. I think i still need to read and learn about the VWF more deeply. I would appreciate it if someone gives me an extra input on this VWF implementation.

Well, i hope this explanation will help. I'll give u guys an update on this project soon (well...... maybe not that soon ok).

This looks great!  Persona's always been a favorite of mine, so I'm really glad to hear about this project.

Strange, but I have made for a long time already the graphic patch changing English sprites on the original. Here my theme, in Russian -> http://karmasociety.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=316&st=0&start=0 , here in English-> http://www.digitaldevildb.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=5496#post5496 . I am embarrassed, plagiarism?  Shocked

Well, i have to say i really didn't know about your project . I maybe can't read Russian, but the date on that forum says that was posted on October 8th 2007. Quite a loooooong time indeed, oh well. But I'm not gonna argue with you about who's copying who, but i really don't like people accusing me of plagiarizing someone like you who only showed some simple graphic changes on the title screen without any screenshots on any script/dialog changes. But i can understand if you feel like somebody is rippin' your work, but please spare me the accusations. Like i said before, i don't know if this project was worth it or not.

And if you really...really...really want to do this translation without any feeling like somebody trying to rip you off (like me that you think i am), i will gladly stop this project to the public and keepin' this for my own personal training project, like i said I'm still training remember? But if i may request, after you do your Russian translation..... (not forcing you) but, have a heart and translate it to English. There are a lot of translators who will help you translating it to English.

2 years ago i stopped this project because of real life demanding problems, plus I'm a lazy guy (i got two patch for both version and yet i still got no time to host it on a site, not to mention the jap's version was over 40 megs of 7zip compressed because of the overall movies copied from the English ver.). The reason I'm resurrecting my old persona project was because nobody wanna do it, and i search through the Google many times hoping somebody already taken or at best finished it was nil/zero  Sad. There wasn't a single links that shows a glimpse of your web or work, that's why i have a spare time right now so i made decision to continue it.

So do your best BoreS, looking at your work you may got the skill to do it. But one thing though, make it quick if you can. Because if i'm finish with patching the English script to jap's then maybe Retranslating it (don't worry saito, you still get the script if i have the chance), and test it, playin' it, enjoyin' it, bored with it, that's 3x time consuming activities, so i presume you would've released your patch by then. If you still not finished yet, last thing i gonna do i might release mine, if that's happens don't come yappin' at me okay  Angry.

Fiuuuh....... that felt good, sorry for the long fuss guys. I just hate it when someone accusing me of something i didn't do it. Oh well, at least someone really translating this game besides me, now i can finally ease up a bit. This is gonna be a good year for the Persona fans i think  Smiley.

Well, that depends on the situation. I was able to upload the English Persona Patch, but it's on the filefront website, sorry this is the only site that comes to my mind, here's the link http://dodownload.filefront.com/8898988//eaf87e0340e21b4b5d98062c0a39adf3c91c4415f91f073992cc50ffba0b0fe5ef1f5318fcaa6333.
Use the ppf-omatic 3 to use this patch.

This Patch consist:

1. Original Characters Portraits From The Japs Ver.
2. Japs Title Screen.
3. Half end of the opening movie has been changed taken from the Japs Ver. (yellowish title screen fade in).

This patch also contains bugs:

1. Title screen menu still hasn't changed, which means the text menu are little to bright because of the Japs title screen (bright title screen with bright title menu means bad to the eyes).
2. If you have a savegames from previous playin', beware that if the name of the saved file consist lowercases alphabet then the name would change into japanese text (I'm to lazy to change the graphic text in the japs ver). Uppercases should have no problem with it.

I haven't test it all the way through the end of the game, so maybe there's another bugs i haven't found it out.

Note that there's another persona hackers (BoreS) working on it. So get his patch if you can, might be better because his concentrating on the graphic priority on the game. I think I'm gonna concentrating only on the script transfer between the English and the Japs and Retranslating it.

I was waiting for BoreS responds, but still no responds from the guy or his submitted file to this site, but i guess he still doesn't have the time yet. So I'm putting mine's on the link above, feel free to look BoreS see if there's some resemblances with your work cause i still don't know if you already altered the opening movie like mine is. This work is purely comin' from me, so don't get mixed up with BoreS's one, or else he might accusing me again. The Jap's version movie patch will have to wait a while, i'm bored waiting the uploading time of 40 megs file, one or two days from this patch release i think.

And i think i screw up my Japanese screenshots file while mistakenly upload the wrong file that already exist on the host site (look at my first post). So  I'm putting it here again on this post. Still blanks though (do that on purpose to make it looks clean).

Remember these screenshots are not from the patch above, look at my first post of the US version screenshots to see the example of the patch works.

Regards.

Excuse Grey, I did not wish you to offend, simply it seemed to me it is strange. And I did not accuse you of plagiarism, it was a question. And moreover, if you do not refuse the help I can join you in translate. If you have translators with Japanese I would like, that you would incur translation with Japanese on English, and I would translate from English on the Russian. Also I will help certainly to you at all stages of translation. I would like to translate the Japanese version anew, instead of to insert available translation. And the graphic patch is so, overindulgence, simply me have asked to make it. Peace? Smiley
If there are questions and offers, write to me on mail or in pm.

And else, your bugs:
1. I changede title screen menu.(look my patch)  I can help you Smiley

2. Because in jap version none lowercase letters, only uppercase.

Consolidating?
