Kind of a silly/stupid question, but are the Thief class and board game exclusive to the Game Boy Color remake? Not going to affect my playing this (my copy of the GBC remake is lost somewhere thanks to me lending it to a friend), just curious.

Nope, those are in the SFC version, too. The monster medals are really the only thing the GBC version has that the SFC version doesn't. Also, I was wondering if the plans to put out a separate version of the patch with the new official spell names are still on track? I was glancing over the wiki a little bit, and there's no mention of that. I remember DaMarsMan musing about it... sure would be nice. :\\

I just want to say thank you to whomever was involved in translating DQIIIr. I have heard so many great things about it, and have heard it's actually a better game than both V and VI. Is this true?
Anyway what I really want to say is, although I am happy to hear it's coming out, I honestly don't know when I will play it. You see, I am at a point in my life where it is very very very VERY hard to stomach jrpgs anymore, due to the random battles, and especially after discovering fast paced action games like Call of Duty. I used to LOVE AND ADORE jRPGs in my youth, but when I played FFIV for the GBA a couple years ago, it was torture, because of the random battles. This is why I hate myself right now. I don't want to turn my back on what used to be my favorite genre of all time, but those random battles....God Damn....do they ever put the T in tedious!
Regardless, I will force myself to play some of these older jRPGs, one of these days, and will motivate my way through the tediousness of random battles.
Any one else in the same position and feel the same way?

Grind? Tedious random battles? You obviously haven't played any MMORPGs.
I played DQIV DS recently, and I really only had to grind at end-game when I decided to swap a constantly-used character for a lesser-used character that was more appropriate for fighting the post-game final boss.

Oh yeah, same here. Although I constantly swapped characters in and out during boss battles already, so I guess it wasn't so bad.

Weird. Usually people go the othe r way; the first thing you play is fast paced action games because they are much more accessible; advanced players play RPGs and strategy. Personally, I couldn´t stand to play Call of Duty & co for more than an hour even if my life depended on it; so I just don´t do it. And this is what you should do too. You don´t enjoy playing JRPGs anymore, then leave it be and don´t play them because you feel you must stay true to your old preferences.

I somehow found a middle-ground between playing RPGs and FPSes. I play both, but RPGs a bit more often than FPSes.
But yeah, knowing that the remake doesn't have monster medals (never did do the second post-game dungeon anyways, I never even fought Divinegon) makes me want to play this. I really liked using the Thief class even if they got shafted in some ways. I also enjoyed the board game. Post-game content is also a plus.

This statement somehow irks me, it implies RPGs and strategy games are somehow better and gamers who play FPS games are somehow shallow people who haven't seen the light yet. Which is of course utter ****. I'm playing J and CRPGs since the SNES days and still today, I'm playing RTS games competitively in clans for 5 years now and I'm still loving Call of Duty 4 and I loved CoD2 before that (the new CoD5 is shit unfortunately). It's a completely different experience from RPG stuff, I don't know how you can even compare them in such a way. And if you think they require no thinking and are pretty brainless "shoot stuff up" games then you obviously never played one online against strong players. It's exciting and often adrenaline pumping, something RPGs are usually completely lacking. If it wasn't for a good stories once in a while I'd propably have completely turned my back on the RPG genre myself by now. I sure have enough of wasting tons hours on grinding.

I'm not sure if this is part of the problem, but the GBA port of FFIV sucked balls. Play the PSX or SNES versions, or hell, the DS version. They're all far superior to the GBA version. ~DS

It's a matter of Square finally seeing the error of their ways, by releasing an official direct English port of the original FFIV.
No difficulty rebalance. No "upgraded" graphics. No added or removed content. No load times. Etc.
I'd gladly pay full price if that happens by some miracle.

Yeah man, game developers should really toss the random battles. I pretty much can't play a JRPG without cheating and turning off the random battles... Damn right it's tedious, I got sick of random battles long ago.

This statement somehow irks me, it implies RPGs and strategy games are somehow better and gamers who play FPS games are somehow shallow people who haven't seen the light yet. ... Well, that´s not my fault. You read into it what you want to read. But it is clear that 99% have their first experience with simpler games than RPGs because, as I said, they are more accessible. No kid or non-gamer starts playing by getting attracted by something so slow paced that requires so much reading and "tediousness". Hell, kids starting to play games are usually in an age where they can barely even read. Everyone can play what he wants, but yes, "discovering" fast-paced action games after RPGs is just weird, no matter how you put it.
