FlashPV:

I'd probably leave the logo alone. I'd rather not deal with that if I don't have to. It will just make life easier dealing with one palette.

I'd like to try and finalize these images as soon as we can. We'll throw the two up for a vote then. Are there any other changes you may want to make based on the suggestions presented in this topic or your own?

Devon_v:

I responded to most of your issues on teh TransCorp board. 8x8 tiles are used on the title screen. There's no overlap between the logo tiles and title tiles, and the palettes including the greens are totally independent of each other.

Is there anything else you want to do to your image before it's finalized?

I just updated the image with a compromise between the Japanese tail and the original hook on the G. It's also using the entirely correct palette now. Nothing else really comes to mind.

I do like the idea of having the Japanese text replace what was English in the original. If mine goes final, I'd like to add that, but for now it's FlashPV's idea.

I honestly really enjoy the Japanese title in the waters reflection.  Also, I'm not too fond of that look of that E for some reason.  I think it's more so the pointy-like ends on the curves of the letter.

I do, too, but as Nightcrawler said, it's an automatic effect, and probably can't be changed. It would be awesome though.

Hypothetically Nightcrawler could leave the Japanese graphics in and just repoint the location of the graphics in the routine that draws the reflection. That's only the best possible scenario though. Wink

Not really. That section of the screen is drawn purely via HDMA background position and offset manipulation effects as I mentioned earlier in this topic. The only way to keep the Japanese reflection would be to have the game load a second set of tiles for the bottom half of the screen and then go through and edit all the HDMA tables used to work with that instead of moving the top half down and manipulating it. Assuming no big obstacles are hit adding the second set of tiles, the time consuming part would be deciphering the HDMA tables and figuring out how to get them to work right with the new area of screen. Secondly, if I remember right, the table data was stored in RAM. So, to actually edit the table, you'll need to track down whether it's ultimately stored in the ROM, or assembled some other dynamic way on runtime.

Definitely more time and more work to do the Japanese reflection. Probably not going to happen, but I would at least consider doing it if the overwhelming majority preferred it.

Okay, I've split this topic off and given it a poll.

FlashVP:

Devon_v:

Either image could have the English or Japanese reflection. Obviously, we only have a mock-up of FlashVP's with Japanese reflection and Devon_v's with English, but they could be interchangeable.

Your poll gives the option of Flash's with Japanese reflection twice, but not Devon's with Japanese reflection. Wink

This is really hard, both look awesome, yet are completely different from each other.

I think I'd go for FlashVP's, since the Dragon attachment to the g is too kickass to waste.

Oops, apparently none of the servers I have access to are very tolerant of hotlinking.

The image is here now: http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/292/edtitlezx8.png

I could do the other two versions if you want, mine with Japanese and FlashPV's with English reflection.

I like Devon_v's, reflection in Japanese or not, but unfortunately I can't vote for both of them, so... Tongue

There's parts of both I like. Most of FlashPV's except the capital 'E'. I like the gradient in Devon's. Either way I'd say keep the Japanese reflection; it looks cooler and it's impressive.

this poll is a little flawed, I say we should vote for which title, and then vote for the refection afterwards so the votes aren't split up.

Just add the two by FlashPV and the two by Devon to choose which and add the two without reflection and the two with to choose that.
