I think Lydia was the name of some place, or some time of currency... as far as references go.
You may have heard the phrase “rich as Croesus”. He was the last king of Lydia. And as far as the Hellenistic world is concerned, they invented coinage, so at one point that meant “literally richer than anyone else”. The story goes that Croesus was wondering whether it was wise to attack Cyrus of Persia. The Oracle at Delphi famously gave him a non-answer, and to make a long story short, it turns out it was not a good idea to attack Cyrus of Persia.

Today, that kingdom’s legacy is largely confined to abstract affairs. For instance, a “Lydian” modal scale starts on the subdominant note of a major (or “Ionian”) scale; the Cerulean City theme from the first generation of Pokémon uses this scale, and may be the only place you have heard it (one of the Magypsies from Mother 3 is named Lydia, which may be the only place you have heard of it). But it is only a name; we know only slightly more than nothing about what most forms of music in ancient times sounded like, and the music of ancient Greece and its surroundings is no exception.

Here's a sample of what my Solomon's Key editor can do so far.  First, the original first level.

Here's the edited version.  You can move the start, key, and exit positions as well as change the solid and magic blocks.

I have since added the ability to move items around the board as well.  Still working on adding/deleting them, and changing enemy data as well, though I know where that data is.

Nice.

(BTW FCEUX does have a screenshot button. F9, or maybe F12, it should be in the Hot Keys list. Smiley )

I did this purely for practice on PS2 games, finding the pointers to the text specifically in this screen was very annoying, but it's good to learn. I also played with a VWF table to reduce the spacing between characters.

Still need to fix all the special codes (namely, line breaks and its delightful friends), but now the original tiled dialog rendering code has been suppressed and replaced with a sprite-based one. This should fix most of those stupid text alignment issues with the VWF (they were even in the original, check the scrolling intro with the bg picture of Baron).
There are also other invisible hacks, like 8-char names for characters and Huffman string compression (many thanks to Kingcom for all the codec procedures!). The last of these new additions made it possible to have a much expanded script in there with no need of unnecessary encoding tricks like dte or mte (heavily used in the original).

I could probably insert the GBA/PSP script fixing whatever is necessary (i.e. random line wraps) when the hack is complete, hence why I've been using that funky font for the current tests.

that's awesome. Also was it always supposed to be Lidia instead of Rydia. Can't imagine how I've missed that all these years.
I'm actually going with the official Japanese set of names, so it's gonna be Rydia in the end. That "Lidia" you see in there comes from an ancient save I had sitting in my Memory Card.

EDIT: I'm pretty much done with the dialog parser:

Now it supports most special codes (I've still got to reverse delays and auto-close) and I was also able to add a new one to clear an entire dialog page, so it's no longer necessary to use a ton line breaks just to split stuff. And guess what else? Now it's all automatically formatted, too!

I started playing around with this back in August, then put it aside while I got distracted by real life then picked it back up again in the last few weeks. As you can see I've made some phenomenal progress. I built on the information in g8z_et_al's starter pack. The VWF is all mine. There's a little more coding work to do, but the really hard part is done, I think. The translations shown in the screenshots are based on reinofhearts Let's Play videos on youtube.

Now I gotta figure out what the hell happened to the translator I had lined up back in August for this. Tongue

Awesome! I feel the aura surging inside me! Tongue That's probably the only Genesis game I ever thought about working on myself.

Where did you get that font? That looks exactly like what I used in Wozz and Tenshi. I can't remember anymore what my source was. Wherever you got it may have been where I got it, and my missing memory can be put back together again! Grin

It is appropriate (as it's been said they're based on the same engine), but now when I see it I'm going to think of Transcorp instead. Tongue

I think it does indeed look appropriate in your game.

Maybe I did grab it from Phantasy Star 4. I really don't know. I am old now and suffering from C.R.S.:

Hi, I've put this screen note at the very beginning of my hack of pokemon Blue, right before that copyright thingy.

I'm not sure if there's any syntax or grammar error (it's not my native language), so can you point them out if you find any? Thanks in advance

I would word the last sentence as "It is best played on (the) Super Game Boy." The way it is right now is rather awkward sounding.

I would also change "based upon the game Pokemon Blue" to "based on the game Pokemon Blue"

Are you trying to make Blue look more like Gold? Reminds me of the GSC pokedex somewhat.
