Chrono Trigger DS font replacement.  Nothing super impressive, I know, but the two fonts they used in the DS port of Chrono Trigger have always bugged me.

It's almost identical to the one I've used on Tales of Phantasia. Cheesy

The larger one is from Final Fantasy Tactics A2, with a shadow I added.  The smaller one is one I made myself based on the FFTA2 font.

Such a pretty tiny font...

Something is wrong with me, but I like looking at it... Smiley

- Thanks to someone's help, I was finally able to figure out how to get a VWF routine working in the pre-release of Chrono Trigger.  Jees, it wasn't that hard at all..

I took a guess at where this text should be but this is an event in Pre-CT where there's a mysterious gate on the outskirts of the area and they don't know where it leads.  Ends up being in the code, it leads to the past where Lucca can save her mom.  There's a few lines of completely new dialogue here and this is one of them.

~Thanks to Chronocompendium for the translation~

Edit: - Not much but I'm FINALLY able to extend the monster names to 12 letters like the final.

I totally agree, the font looked good, but could've been better. This proves it. Great job!

That translation looks a bit...stilted. "Your current self"? >_>

It's pretty much a "direct" translation from what I can tell.  It was just a test run to show that there's a working VWF in the pre-release.  Most definitely not the final.

Figuring out how a simple cursor works was never this anal:

Before:

Yeah, whoever programmed this didn't even care about accidentally hiding text.

Other eye candy from same menu:

Adios, fixed length strings put in there for no good reason.

Here, for those who'd like to see what's behind all the magic. That's one of the scripts used for translating menus. Should be easy enough to alter even for newbies.

Looks awesome Gemini  It's surprising how much better your font is over the original English font, it looks a lot more professional.

Now if only something could be done about the stilted DS script...

If you plan on releasing the tools you're using, if any, I wonder if they'll be easy enough for someone who isn't too experienced in Romhacking to use... FFVII needs a retranslation.

From the 8th character patch... unfortunately I cheated to do so. Magus and the Schala sprite share a palette at the moment. I'm not sure how to give the 8th character it's own palette yet.

Still looks great Mauron.  It's a whole step closer.

- Figured out how to bump the MP over and get the 3 digit MP showing that was intended in the pre-release.  It looks kind of..awkward.  I think that's how the HP works as well so there's not much to be done D:

I've also figured out how to bump the PC names over one, but the bug is that the 5th letter isn't being highlighted.

With that, I've also NOP'd out some code that I believe was completely useless for the PC names.  I think it was intended for some symbols to appear above the PC names if they were used there, but I decided to NOP it out seeing as that won't even be needed anymore.

Also with what I've learned, I'm probably going to go back to my 7th letter hack and re-do most of how the menu boxes are written.  There's soooo much they could have done to save room but they just screwed it up completely from what I can see.  So I'll try to optimize that code later on.
