Textured Buster Sword experiment: Status: Complete Success! So yeah, apparently FF7 is able to support fully textured models in battle, and the funny fact about it is that a colored triangle takes more space than a textured one. The Buster Sword in the pictures uses a 128x128 texture with 128 colors (exactly like in Vagrant Story) and was made by Millenia. This was also a nice occasion for writing a .3ds->.p converter. Next step: texturing Cloud and making each weapon model+texture use an external file (currently they're all embedded inside the character's model data).

Looks great, except in the second image it looks like he'd smack them with something blunt, not something to slice. That's just an odd view though, and even still you did an amazing job with this. Definite congrats on that.

are you planning on doing a re-translation of FF7 with your tools at some point? The only retranslation I've personally planned is for the Italian version, the very same you see in those screenshots. As for English, somebody else is already working on it, tho I'm not entirely sure how it will turn out or if it will be ever completed.

However, once Gemini releases his italian re-translation and his completed tools, I might pick it up. ~DS

Well, after final fantasy 3 was made, square planned on making a 4Th final fantasy game on the NES, while the FF4 we all know would have been FF5, they scrapped the game during the concept stage, and I've loosely based the gameplay and graphics on that concept, here's the magazine scan.

That was later revealed to be a fake (the translator of the FF2 NES proto said it was, but couldn't remember if it was made up by Square or the magazine, but that about half the features (no further elaboration) were actually planned), but if it gives you ideas for your hack, I guess it doesn't matter. A gigantic battleship that fills 1/3 of the screen? Can the NES even do that?

Yeah, I'm just sticking to 2x2 airships, those would probably be impossible to do without removing the entire overworld.

Yeah, give Dragoon X Omega II a run for it's money!
(which is no money, as it was free)

I'd get more done if I'd stop inserting stupid lines in place of the translation.

No one's planning a PSX one yet, though. However, once Gemini releases his italian re-translation and his completed tools, I might pick it up. Seifer said he wanted to give it a try when his PC retranslation is done and my tools are stable enough. No need to reinvent the wheel.
