To get three lines without using more vertical space you could shrink the font down vertically and hack the vwf to allow three lines.

^ That way would be more suitable.  Most GBA games use two lines for script.  I wonder if there are any GBA games that uses 3 lines so we can get an idea of the font size?

3 lines? Quite a few. Like the MMBN series and FF remakes.

Okay, using the English font from the DS version is too big.  Well, it could fit but it takes up about half the space of the GBA screen and people don't like it even know Battle Megaman Network GBA uses a similar size font and box size on the GBA. Tongue

Anyway, I found increasing the text box by one 8 x 8 square and using a size 10 font, it looks rather nice.

Note: I just made the image quickly so it's only to show a rough idea what it would look like.  Custom is on the left, original on right.

I think a better 1bpp font needs to be used or a custom one needs to be made.  What do you think of this idea cocomonk22?  Hacking it is going to be fun and difficult know.

EDIT: The Dotum font works really well.  Here's a better mock up of the image:

The blue and yellow squares on the left hand side are just to give me an idea how to hack the font in.  The GBA uses 8 x 8 squares to display graphics and the font is going to use two squares.  The first step is to make the GBA load the OAM graphics as two 8 x 16 (instead of 16 x 16) squares on three lines.

The bobbing that appears at the bottom of the screen in the GBA version will have to appear on the far right, like in Phoenix Wright which can easily be hacked into the GBA version.

By the bobbing, you mean the arrow, correct? I think the Dotum font looks great

But what’s with the icky ‘r’ next to the ‘t’? The one at the end of the word is much better.

Ignore those.  I think I actually moved the letters to far on the third row while editing the image.  The font will look better once I add it to the ROM.

Well, I found the value to change the width of the font:

It's reading the tiles as a 8 x 8 at the moment so I got to figure out how to tell the game to display the font correctly.

The height of that textbox is much nicer and that font looks good too.

I've got a lot of college work for the next two weeks so I won't be able to start figuring this out until the beginning of May.  When I have some free time, I'm looking into the processor of how OAM and VRAM data works in the GBA so images can be moved about.

The voices is something I've been looking into.  http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,6212.0.html

One thing that did occur to me is that the voice data in the NDS version may work in the GBA version.  I got to go and locate and compare the data but it will make our lives a lot easier if that is the case.  This may not work but its worth shot.

EDIT: I'm also planning on buying the NO$GBA Debugger.  Just I can't send the creator the $15 to his Pay Pal account because his account won't let him accept any money.  I've sent him an e-mail informing him about this.  I just wish I could finding a working torrent download.

I tried buying the debugger a few months ago, but never got any reply after sending my money. I sent emails to like 3 or 4 of his different addresses from non-Hotmail, etc. addresses, but no luck. I wonder what's going on. Anyway, hopefully you'll get better results than I did  Tongue

I just did a small correction in case 1 at the beginning regarding name tags (http://PW.scorpei.com/ips/GS3_English00g2.ips). I'll work on some graphics today as well.
