Well maybe judge is a better word but I just needed to hear it so I know. That way I can except your decisions. I don't think we'll have any problems with this particular translation so I think you made the right decision.

Actually... InVerse?

First Blood was renamed Rambo in several countries. So Rambo was Rambo II, Rambo III was Rambo III, and John Rambo will likely be Rambo IV: Electric Boogaloo.

So yay, no drama, we get our Mother fix too.

I was once in negotiation with SNK to purchase the rights to Crystalis.

This isn't a joke right? Because I've been wondering about how much such rights would actually cost. Not in particular Crystalis, old games in general. A lot of the other SNK games on the Nes you mentioned are arcade-ports, I'd really be curious how far SNK would have granted you rights concerning these in such a deal.

Btw. there's also a "Super Rambo Special" game for old Japanese computers.

Believe me, I know first-hand how that is -- you can never please everyone. As I was saying, I respect your decision either way. I just like getting philosophical about this kind of stuff -- but like most philosophers, I have more questions than answers.

By the way, in light of Tomato's most recent post, I'll allow Mother 3 onto the site. Game, set, match. End Drama.

Oh, way to ruin my argument that you wouldn't change your mind*, Mr. John Kerry :P

Yeah? Well I say you won't ever PayPal me $5,000, too! What do you say to that, sir?

YAY!

NC gets a  :cookie:

Tomato, et al gets  :cookie: :cookie: :cookie:

To start more drama I think NC should get more cookies than Tomato. Tongue
Hes the one he was man enough to admit he was wrong when presented evidence he was not aware of. A lot of people would still stick to their stance just because they worked so hard to make it clear.

Also pardon my french but where the FIGGLESWORTH did Electric Boogaloo come from? I hear it all over but I feel like I'm missing out on part of the joke because I have no idea where it came from.

I quick wikipedia search reveals:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakin%27_2:_Electric_Boogaloo

Apparently it was the subtitle to a sequel to a movie I've never heard of. Until just now, I never understood it either, I just thought it was a f'in hilarious name.

I was once in negotiation with SNK to purchase the rights to Crystalis. Not just the rights to translate/hack the game, but the full rights, to where I would be the only person in the entire universe who had the legal right to make anything related to Crystalis. (The plan was to create a sequel.) SNK was actually quite willing to sell me the rights to the game at the minimum rate of which they had set for their intellectual property. Unfortunately, that rate was $100,000. To SNK's credit, however, they acknowledged that that was an extremely high rate for such an old game, so they offered to include two other NES games, three for the price of one. Of course, there's the fact that every other game SNK made for NES sucked ass. What they hell would I have picked? Baseball Stars & Guerilla War? Athena and Iron Tank? Two of the 3 Ikari Warriors? Now, had I known that Nintendo was going to obtain the rights to Crystalis and completely ruin the Gameboy version, I might have made a serious effort towards raising the $100,000. Of course, I would have blown the whole thing on hookers and cocaine, but they say it's the thought that counts.

are you serious? DAMN, that would have been awesome with the money, I would have gone for crystalis, athena, and the first ikari warrior.

would that be rights to the game itself, or the whole IP? they'd have to pay for the characters every time they made another King of Fighters game Wink that'd be so freaking awesome.

also, they shoujld have called the latest rambo movie either Rambo IV, or John Rambo (like they called the latest Rocky movie Rocky Balboa) simply calling it Rambo is lame.

@Nightcrawler, I'm really happy that it turned out this way, not for hosting the patch, but just the attitude the site has, and RHDN and you didn't have to sacrifice any integrity. It's good it could be resolved without you having to back down on your statement, or continue to oppose the "mob" Wink

it's a win/win Cheesy

Thank you. I'll take that and run with it. Smiley I'm just ultimately sensitive to that kind of talk as it comes up a lot by people and I feel it is unjust accusation (probably strong word to use here, but that's all that came to mind). I pride myself in working very, very hard to balance everything done here. I work and deliberate with staff, and pass on to the community when no decision is reached there. And ultimately, not every issue has a clear consensus, or quite frankly nobody cares much either way in some cases. It is then, that I may have to act as judge to simply pick a side. But that's as burden and not as first choice.

I apologize for the aggressiveness, but I also greatly took offense to your comments. I have invested blood, sweat, and tears for 2 years into maintaining the site to the opposite degree of what you claim. If I only faltered 5 times, I still have a 99.X% track record. Labeling me as a dictator is a personal attack to myself.

My role at ROMhacking.net is judge. Like any court system with with a jury, there's got a be a judge. That's me. They jury still makes most of the decisions, but the judge makes one once in awhile as well and maintains order. Wink

Yeah, no kidding!

I don't know about you, but I'm not comfortable with those kind of claims coming from the staff.

I mean, it's like if you go to a store and a clerk starts criticizing his boss in front of everybody.

I think this should be done in the moderation forum, in private.

Just my input.

I also have a lot of respect for NC who had the integrity to change his mind after the facts were clarified.

I'm glad this didn't end up in some flame war.

ZOMG NC DOUBLE POST Grin

I had faith that this would be resolved one way or the other. In the end it boiled down to understanding. Super keen!

Awesome. I'm glad this got talked out and came to a conclusion that everyone is happy with. This calls for celebratory smilies:   :woot!: You run a good ship here, NC.

...how did this conversation turn into one about Rambo again?

The real question is...how did it not turn to Rambo sooner?

Not to nice when the boss chews out a worker in public either. The whole point was me trying to figure out if Nightcrawler is the so-called "boss". It's really not your place to comment either. Staff disagree with each other sometimes whether with or without you seeing it.
