Started doing an actual hack of Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, instead of just writing the editor:

Will at least change Cutman's stage; already modified some of the graphics, as well as reimplemented the unused and previously non-functional insta-kill spikes.

Can I get some input on which of these looks better?

It looks a little weird under the FD stat because the original font had a blank row there. I tried shifting the font down a pixel, but it looks weird without the drop shadow on the bottom (http://i.imgur.com/8uD5P.png). Any suggestions?

It doesn't look weird at all without the drop shadow.  I think that's a better choice.

As for the two, the one on the right looks more natural.

Are you aiming to not have the GB games be so infuriating? I think with trial and error I could probably reach the fortress of each, but doesn't feel right. Kinda what it takes to beat X6... Embarrassed

I could barely tell the difference for a bit, but yes, the one on the right is better looking. Maybe it doesn't look as good when you play it full screen on a computer, but seeing that the images are more or less how a GBA screen looks like, it's really good the way it is now. Would it be possible to shift FD like... five pixels to the right? You could have it just not be on top of the HP number that way.

Oh, but it seems like number of spaces between each stat initial and the stat number is shared, doesn't it? Hmmm... :/

Either way... right one is better.

I'm not exactly good at regular Mega Man games (that is jump'n shoot) in general, so I'm trying to make this beatable for those people. I'd like to be able to beat my own hack after all Smiley  It's not going to be a walk in the park, but not horribly difficult either - here's hoping to be able to create a nice balance there.

That said, another screenshot that's probably not saying much at all:

Here's some Hourai High, before and after.

More comparison shots here and the standard smorgasbord of dialog, interface, and combat snaps can be seen here.

Shave a pixel out of the middle. Reduce the font's height without killing the drop shadow.

If you can provide the font, I could even take a crack at it for you.

Gideon, I'm impressed with the amount of tweaking you must've had to do to rearrange those menus.  Shocked

I've got a couple questions about the translation of the title, though. Shouldn't 転校生 be "Transfer Student"? Also, why was スクランブル translated as "Drama Bomb"?

Wow, funny- I read Drama Bome. I also had the same questions over the translation... I'm not good with kanji, but I'm sure the katakana says Scramble.

The word choice is unfortunate but necessary. Each of the nine characters in TENKOUSEI SCRAMBLE are sprites, and they bounce in from the right. The last character bounces in backwards, then rights itself after a moment or two. Unless I figured out how to hack the sprites (and I'm awful with sprites, I should stress) we were stuck with finding a nine-letter word whose last letter wouldn't look the same when flipped horizontally. We ended up with DRAMABOMB as it conveys a similar sense of panicked insanity that SCRAMBLE conveys, while staying well within the game's humorous nature. As far as 転校生 goes, transfer student, exchange student, same thing. In this case the game starts with the main character is being flown in from Somewhere Else, so it works either way.

This is just a mockup, but I was wondering if there was room for improvement for the spacing between text boxes? I'd like to make sure it's perfect before I hack it in.

It's Gemini's Melissa font. Here's the image I'm using: https://github.com/moozilla/Telefang-2-English-Translation-Project/raw/generic-vwf/melissa%20font/edited.png
