- Now they're only covering up the item icon. And I think that's much better.
Thanks alot MoN! ^_^ I doubt you care, but overscan will kill about half of the cursor. One thing I suggest is not cutting the names off like that; either write a separate set of short names for use where the full ones won't fit, or cut them off with an ellipsis like we do in the shops in Pandora's Box. It just makes them more asetically pleasing than chopping off the name at a random point.

Plus, if I can handle it, I'd like to attempt a VWF for it. (*can hear Gemini going "But do it NOW! It's easy!"* =/) Anyway, would anyone be mortally offended if half of the hand was cut off? I don't see it as a huge issue, but I was given a few suggestions last night that I might try if it does become one. ~DS

(*can hear Gemini going "But do it NOW! It's easy!"* =/) Heh. Me, personally, I hate the way long names look without a VWF. That's why my hacks limited the names in menus to the original nine characters (my enhancement was up to ten, but I'm going to scrap/redo that and will likely cap at nine again), I had a separate table of names to use in dialogue for picking up treasure, and battle for when the item was used or stolen. It worked out well, people see "<staff>Antidote" in the menu and don't need any more than that, but the full names are still available for any items with more interesting names. That let me keep the menu layouts the same as they were originally too, without needing to move too much around. I modeled my Easy Type translation, and later my enhancement hack, on AWJ's FF3 translation. I consider it one of the most aesthetically pleasing FWF translations, mostly because of clever use of squishy text in a way that looks natural (unlike the vast majority of projects that use it so sparingly that it stands out like a sore thumb). There are a few things I'd change (That awful squishy "Status" in the main menu, for one), but the overall presentation is great. VWF's are wonderful, but you don't necessarily need one for have a nice looking translation. Anyway, would anyone be mortally offended if half of the hand was cut off? I don't see it as a huge issue, but I was given a few suggestions last night that I might try if it does become one.
Possibly, I wouldn't be one of them though, I was just pointing it out to you. The original developers didn't seem to pay much attention to overscan in this game either (the top and bottom of just about every menu gets cut off, and the left border of the main menu), unlike FF6 where they put a nice border around the whole thing. Some TV's are really bad though, and you could very well lose the entire cursor. I've never owned one like that; all of my TV's were limited to cutting off about three pixels of the menu borders.

DS, you thought about doing a two-line hack?

Yeah. It's been something I've considered for a while.
But really, if I might end up doing a VWF? It won't be needed. So it'll be one or the other. And I need a VWF more for other things too (battles, magic menu, for instance).

S'up ya'll? I ain't dead, here's a lill sumthin sumthin... I've been slowly getting motivated to hack right now, here's two screens from my Battle City hack... Bonus points for who remembers which hack that characters comes from in the 2nd pic... ^^; I dunno what came over me a few days ago, I started messing around with Mega Man in St. Canard and for some strange reason I'm learning how to use the scroll editor. So here's fireman's level in the beginning... Don't worry about that glitch in the background, I need to get ridda more 01 objects but they're being an ass to delete. ^^;

an extra 1 pixel spacing between the letters might make that a bit less painful to read, the font looks nice though

It's an illusion. The characters are a little taller than normal; the width itself is fairly standard for a VWF.
