Yes, FFVIII.

Wait, no! I said “needs”, not “would be nice if there were”!

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t mind doing the honors on FFVII myself, but I am very very busy, and getting back up to speed on the vastness of Final Fantasy terminology is just about the last thing I want to do right now. Er, need, rather. Of course I’d like to do it more than I’d like to do my homework and get a job....

I'm so glad the Italian FFVIII wasn't translated from English, then. :p

I would consider FF7, but I don't really have the time for  1mb script. How much text is in it?

Hell, I kind of wonder if anyone’s up for fan-dubbing the entire darn game (I mean, hey, there are hacks for just about everything already), but as I said, I’m kind of on a manic streak and think that’s a reasonable goal. :V

And to be perfectly honest, I think the next crazy thing an FF7 retranslation team would undertake would be FF9PC.

I must be stopped ._.

It's more or less 1.3~1.4 MB.

Yes, FFVIII.
I don't remember FF8 being bad...

FF9 has a very solid localization, but it could use a simple hack just to fix up some names, so that everything actually matches up to the various English names of the past... (Terra Homing = Terraforming, Hilgigars = Hill Gigas, Madeen or whatever = Maduin, Rally-ho = Lali-ho, etc).

Gladly, if of course it becomes feasible, because that is alot of text.

(it was sarcasm following from the previous three replies... of course, the next line was only what it was because I can’t remember exactly what it was Baku said about cutting the crap near the beginning of FF9 . Naturally, KingMike knew what I meant.)

FF9 might not have a perfect translation, but it’s good enough for me because there was a paucity of lines that seemed off base (and the translators definitely did their homework on some of the tougher points). The principle of least astonishment certainly guides localization; whether they did a good job is up to the individual FF fan, I suppose. Despite being more familiar with the older line of translations, I like the newer translations better. Of course, even back when I played the game, I could read between the lines and tell that Gulug = Gurgu and so forth; not every oldschool FF fan was privileged to that.

You ever thought the font in Xenogears blows? Wanna feel the thrill of cool looking text? Try Italy's newest masterpizza! Cheesy

Before and After (to be centered):

Some dialogues (window's width has to be updated):

The new font is Trebuchet MS. Also notice the 3D shadow replacing the ugly-ass glow border.
The game has forced us to implement a SNES-like VWF: usually on the PSX is possibile to achieve the effect treating every character as a sprite. But here, each line of the buffer corresponds to a sprite or, to be precise, two sprites. In fact, the game can render a different "layer" of the line by switching palette!

The game did have a horrid font, and I am generally not one to notice things like that. Any plans to change the menus font, if it's kept separate?

The font in the menu is the same, so the VWF is already there Wink

Nice work as always gentlemen!  When I go through the game again I will use this, and I thank you in advance.
