I avoid Wikipedia since I think it's bullshit. Reading the brainfuck on these discussion pages reminded me on why I do so, thanks Tongue

What's this Gaming Hacks book by O'Reilly that's mentioned a few times? Does anyone know it? I'm interested in the scale of how our scene is mentioned there.

This is the book. Didn't someone post about it on the Whirlpool's message board way back?

If I lived in the US I'd buy it used for 90 cent just out of curiousity Undecided\

I've added my two cents to the discussion. Cited a few print media articles, as well as the recent RPGamer interview wherein Sakamoto praises FH and crew.

So the person that started this deletion is a, I quote from his wikipedia page, a "Wikipedia deletionist." who seems to take immense pride in deleting articles as seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Misterdiscreet
He also deleted Neill_Corlett and RPGe. He just claimed on the Fan Translation discussion page we need a source from "BBC, CNN, New York Times, Washington Post, ABC, NBC" or it doesn't count as a source. I get the feeling he treats every deletion as a personal victory as I would treat beating a video game as a victory. I suddenly feel better about my life.

To be sure it is a pretty poor article, but it has no less right to existence than the ORLY article.

I have an acquaintance who is a Wikipedia Admin. I'll contact him and see what he thinks of people like that guy.

wow, i mean. wow.

yea for f*cks sake, yea keep the article, but clean it up.  just because it hasn't been on CNN or CBS doesn't mean it shouldn't be on Wikipedia.

If you pride yourself on being an editor of wikipedia, you really need to get a life. I know that you can say the same for Romhacking, but atleast this DOES have a minor impact, its been noted in quite a few of the major gaming magazines, their have been interviews with developers and publishers on how they feel about Fantranslations.

screw it, let them take it down, if people feel like it doesn't deserve on Wikipedia, then they could have valid reasons, we can always make an article on this site as NC said, were we can put in information.

Well, I just destroyed his own argument on the discussion page by using his own source against him, so I'm hoping the admin that makes the deletion decision sees he is just a troll. I just want the article to stay so people who are curious about fan translations can find romhacking.net  Wink

unfortunately he said that he doesn't find those to be creditable sources, he wants (as said)

If anyone has the addresses of the sites mentioned in the article, I suggest that you see if they're archived at the Wayback Archive so we can use them as reference.

Except for anything (wraith) did, of course. He blocked them since the beginning.

StarBeamAlpha: I don't think he'll care.

Anyway, I spoke to the admin I mentioned and he said...

For what it's worth, judging from where the AfD is now, it will probably
come out as a "keep" or a "no consensus", both of which will result in
nothing bad happening to the article.

But you could help it a lot by adding a bunch of proper references to it,
to prove that the article isn't original research. The lack of reliable
sources appears to be the problem that's generating the most complaints.

I don't care what he thinks, but I think an admin would side with the argument I posted which is what I had in mind while writing it.

Does anyone have the page numbers and the date published to this article in Retro Gamer so I can cite them?

Oh, I thought he had said it.

There was no way you guys would know it would become an issue in the future. And they wouldn't accept posts from a message board anyway. Tongue

For some reason, I don't think Julius Ceaser is mentioned on BBC, CNN, New York Times, Washing Post, ABC, NBC, etc.  Maybe this Misterdiscreet thinks he ought to be deleted, as well...

...or maybe someone should just nominate Misterdiscreet for deletion  Grin
