it IS interesting how if the person making the silly request is new he gets chewed out, but if a normal member does, they aren't, you'd think it shoud be the other way around, the member should know better.
I've also found this frustrating at other forums where they misunderstand you or you make a slight mistake and you are from then on marked by that post, I guess it pays to post wisely.
In any case RHDN is good because for the most part we are nice but still don't put up with any crap.
Really? I don't see that to be the case. If it is, I don't bother answering anyone, member or not, who sticks in an unrelated useless subject, gives no information they discovered for themselves, AND has a one line broad question like 'How do I hack?'. Do members actually do this(I can think of one or two, but they got chewed out for it also)? Please point it out to me. I really don't remember any. Yes, yes it does pay to think before you post. People jump right in and post before even trying to help themselves. Is it really elitist? Somebody has come to ROMhacking.net, has posted an non descriptive topic with no indication they have even done a single thing with the resources available here or on Google, and proceed to ask one of the most unspecific questions possible. C'mon. You've got to draw the line somewhere. If that's elistis for not wanting to help those people and discouraging repeat performances, then yeah, we're elitist. I love new people or I wouldn't have bothered making this site. But I don't love new people who take actions like that.

I think people coming here for "romhacking help", expect a tool that exists for that game (or any game for that matter) that has everything pretty much done (a full fledged game editor, or at minimum, some specific tool like a script inserter for translation purposes).
Too bad most games don't fall into that catagory. That should be the theme of failed requests on this board.

Yes, I'm sure that contributes to it. However, being that you can look up utilities via game right here on the site, that's a good place to start. If nothing comes up for your game, there's a good chance, none have been made. However, people don't even do that much. They just barge right on in and expect somebody else to search for them. Although, people come here and don't even know this site has Utilities, so I don't know what to think.

Most of the pokemon kiddies we get in here about probably the 12 and 13 year olds anyways. Maybe we should have a competency test to sign up for the boards. Like maybe 5 questions and require a ninety percent. Nothing hard by something poki fans could get.

A small questionaire could be asked of a user before the post their first message... or display common bad first posts (and put them in a huge font size for emphasis).

yeah, I have a friend like this, no concept what-so-ever of what it means to create hacks, it's sad really, but what I like about RHDN is that it's nice to all, if you put in a questionaire it's a slippery slope from there. I think it's a respected site BECAUSE we aren't like that, it's not just an information hub, but a community, and looks to be one of the biggest and is continually growing. who knows it might one day reach the level of zophar's in popularity, only time can tell.

exactly, I might have had something to contribute BUT that quiz plus their kind of evaluation period is a pretty big turn off, then again, it's their forum, if they want to turn people away who am I to point an accusing finger.

That would just be pointless. A few years ago I may have agreed with you, but these quizzes don't solve the problem with less-than-intelligent people joining and it's just annoying having to deal with them while registering. It's even more annoying when they strip everyone's member status because too many idiots slipped in and make you retake the damn quiz...

If you miss one that's 80% right there! Everyone's got to start somewhere; hopefully like me: offline. But seriously, what someone knows & doesn't know is not exactly the issue - it's the person's willingness to learn. With that said, people need to learn how to read the tabs. :banghead:
