I've looked through the games files and while there is some uncompressed text in there, most of the text is compressed. I've got several reasons for not wanting to hack it myself. First off, I don't have the experience, second off, PS2 emulators aren't that good yet and using swap discs hasn't worked for me, and third, I hear it uses big 2 byte English characters. So I was wondering is there anyone out there who's planning on translating this game?

I've managed to find 2 uncompressed files, which I think may be some type of dialogue.

Isn't this more of a translation requests thread type of thing?

Also, did you get my last couple of PMs?

If Swap Magic isn't working for you, you could always try the HDLoader. It's better anyway.

But you need a hard drive for that. :p

You're right, but I'm also just kind of interested in seeing if anyone wants to take it up. And yes I've read your PMs, but I haven't gotten to even testing the VWF yet, because I haven't gotten to downloading a program that can remove headers. I'll get up on that when I get home though, and I'm also going to try and see if my translator for Kawa 1 would interested in translating for number 2. Since you already sent me all the kanji in the game, all I have to do right now is find the bytes they correspond to, and I'll be able to dump it. Still though...

I've got a similar amount of kanji with Chrono Trigger. I don't know the exact amount, but the table with kanji is almost 30KB by itself. >.<

Open the rom in a hex editor, select the first $200 bytes, delete. Simple.

Well, true... and you also need a network adapter. Even so, it's the best value for money I ever got out of a console accessory.

HDLoader? First time I've ever heard of it, which kinda shocks me, since I thought I'd hear about something like that admist my searching through mod chips and magic swap sites.

Eek! O_O Only Kanji? What happened to the Hiragana and Katakana? ... No, nevermind... It should cover all of it because of names. Tongue

If it's of help to anyone, you can use the "translation" found at GameFAQ's as a reference. Just look for the FAQ that's over a megabyte in length, the one at the very top.

Sorry if I wasn't specific enough, lol. It's not JUST kanji. It's Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji AND DTE/MTE values.

Wow, I didn't know such a guide existed. With that the game should be quite playable. The only thing which puts me off is the story continuity stuff, I think I'll never fully get which games of the series I have to play in which order. So far I only played OG, which I know has it's own story >_<.

Alpha -> Alpha Gaiden -> Alpha 2 -> Alpha 3

SRW2 -> SRW3 -> SRW EX -> SRW F -> SRW FF

SRWA -> SRWR -> SRWD -> SRWJ

Alpha Gaiden and EX may be optional; I don't know. I also don't yet know if SRWW fits into the GBA continuity.

Otherwise, those are the two main storylines. I don't believe you have to play anything in one in order to enjoy the other. Pretty much all the other games are standalone, afaik.

Thanks, that's by far the clearest explanation I've heard so far. So I guess I'll just play Alpha 3 and see for myself if I find lots of background missing or if it's fine.
