I don't know how to hack that.  So if you want to do it, by all means go ahead

hand spear
0481 97

If you use that in FCEUXD it puts what it says is the hand spear in your hand. Not really, you can't see it or do anything. If you scale the value from 8f and forward it gives you various weapons but you don't actually get to use them. I also seen Ninja Blade. I can't recall if that was in there or not.

I also saw some game genie codes,

SZUUPAAX        Protection for Bill, Jimmy & Chin
GVEPXGGI        More energy for Billy & Jimmy
GVEOXKZG        More energy for Ranzou
GOOPKGIA        Start with 20 special weapons for BIlly, Jimmy & Chin
AXOPKGIE        Start with 40 special weapons for Billy, Jimmy & Chin
AXOONGGO        Start with 40 special weapons for Ranzou
OZVLGASX        More powerful punch and weapon, and high kick!

I guess you should be incorperating them into the game. The work is already done there. You probably already knew about those tho.

Yup, I already knew about those. Cheesy

But I still need a way to set the continues back to '03' after there's no more continues - if that's important.

As for the Ninja Blade, that's what Ranzou is always using.  On a side note, 'KNIFE' wasn't a useable weapon.

Although Ranzou uses Shurikens, I believe they were meant to be pickups as you can see the sprites on the appropriate character tiles.  Same with the Nunchucks. Weird.

That, or they were meant to be refillable sometime. I kind of like the idea of them being able to be picked up instead of starting with them. Starting with them was kinda un-DD like.

I find it funny how you can buy them in the arcade.  That's something a console platform would more likely do.

I decided to try out Rosetta Stone, the Japanese version.  Here are the differences:

-more health (10 points to be exact)
-less enemies
-Hiruko comes on screen before the victory music stops playing (impatient Cheesy)
-Hiruko appears after defeating Chin (I find that strange; where did she get in? I have to go back & find out what she says, too)
-Hiruko says something before she dies
-Only characters that survived show their endings (don't think it did that with the U.S. version)

Anyways, I fixed the health accordingly. Tongue There, now we have best of both worlds, sort of.

Now all that needs to be done is a run-through before it's finished.

US seems like it used to have a hard-on for making games impossibly difficult. I hear the Japanese Battletoads is a bit easier also.

0485

Use that along with the other code I just posted to be able to use subweapons like the bottle. They will have messed up graphics and stuff. The best way to get their value is to grab a weapon and see what that value is in the cheat searcher. I don't have time to look at it now to see if I can get an equippable spear weapon. I know it works to give you the bottle tho.

I tried having the sprites of the weapons work off of the Billy & Jimmy sprite sets so that they wouldn't change when a different enemy entered the screen; but all weapons use the same sprites. Sad So if I did that, all the weapons picked up would look the same; they'd either all have to be a knife, a bottle, etc.

So I'll just leave it the way it is.  It's actually pretty nice being able to throw a bottle once in a while or being able to use a spear when those wrestlers show up. Tongue

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay long ago, IcemanX (anyone remember him?) said that Double Dragon 3 had several differences in the Japanese version. I didn't believe him. Guess I should've pestered him into working on the translation way back then.

I doubt it would take long to translate. I mean seriously, its double dragon. How much dialog does it have? lol.

It's not actually the spear, it's the knife using the spear sprites. Grin

I can see that, but how did you get it to work.

You pick up a knife or a bottle.  When one of those wrestlers appears, taking place of whatever character had the weapon, you'll be holding a spear. Tongue
