Topic: Obvious Improvements (Read 2 times)

I'd assume this is the right place, since it's not asking for a translation per se. But while browsing the site I checked the CastleVania 2 page and what seems like a totally obvious fix isn't on there. A fix that lets the people talking actually make sense. Instead of random clues that make no sense. So I guess the point of this topic is:
What are some other games that need some obvious simple fixes that haven't got them yet?

Actually, I think there was a project on here once that wanted to improve the ridiculous translation of that. That was, until they found out it was mostly accurate!

This topic makes me curious how accurate the translations of Zelda 1, Zelda 2, and Phantasy Star 4 are.
Zelda 1 might've been pretty bad. I mean, Nintendo themselves went so far as to de-Engrish the intro at least.
I don't even want to think about how awful the Secret of the Stars script appears to be from screenshots...

With Castlevania even a hack would be good as long as it let you know what they were TRYING to say. The whole 'The death star brings certain death!' doesn't really make a lot of sense. Instead maybe saying something about equipping the crystal while kneeling, that kind of thing. Or as the AVGN pointed out, let us skip the 'horrible night for a curse'.

As someone said above, that is what they were trying to say. They were intentionally being vague.

I always spent night time in the towns. The zombie guys were easy to kill and were a great supply of hearts and experience points. Plus, when day comes around, you can go get your health back.

As someone said above, that is what they were trying to say. They were intentionally being vague. But being vague doesn't make it playable though. There is a fine line between 'when you come to a dead end, crouch with the crystal to find the path.' and ""Hit Deborah Cliff with your head to make a hole." Or as the AVGN pointed out, let us skip the 'horrible night for a curse'.

I was actually talking about the fact you have to sit through the text each time. I liked the night/day cycle as well.

It's funny how people keep saying "someone figured out that Castlevania 2's nonsense script and blatant lies were actually part of the original".
No one ever says, "Ryusui figured out that Castlevania 2's nonsense script and blatant lies were actually part of the original."
I wonder if people will someday attribute my work on BoF2 to "someone" as well. :'(

Better than “no-oneâ€.... I’ve seen “someone†(actually, more than one person ) suggest minor cosmetic changes including typo/grammar fixes and such. I suppose it might not feel like it’s worth it, combing through megabytes of script to uncover maybe ten mistakes, but sometimes it could be worthwhile... I mean, I can’t remember the last time, but ever get an in-game clue that was just flat-out misleading?

"Attack while the tail's up!" would be a classic example. (This, kids, is why context is your friend.)
This said, during TheGunheart's brief stint as an alpha tester before he quit due to other priorities, he did raise some interesting points: the game doesn't really tell you you're supposed to go to Tagzi Woods to confront Bunyan, so I hinted it a bit better.

Kirby & the Amazing Mirror has a few silly typos. 'Mr. Flosty'? Yeah.
'faild' in the ending of Mega Man 6 too. I looked at the rom and tried to fix that myself, but didn't work. Luckily they dealt with it for Anniversary Collection.
What about the Phoenix Wright games? I've heard 'The miracle never happen' is quite well known.

"Attack while it's tail is up" always makes me groan. I actually listened the first time I played it. Yep. Figured out THAT typo pretty quickly. It's kind of funny, actually. It's mostly the games that have fairly decent translations (if not localizations) that have the most/craziest typos.
