I'll throw in my $10 before I hit the bed.

1. Dragoon X Omega II
2. Chorus of Mysteries
3. Extra Mario Bros.
4. Mario Adventure
5. Mario in: Some Usual Day
6. Megaman Ultra
7. Final Fantasy++
8. Legend of the Blob Bros. 2

Must go sleep now...

I believe my megaman 3 hack will be the most comprehensive of any type of megaman-only related hacks blowing all those japanese ones out of the water. Smiley
But sadly I will still not be done with my project for many more years. Sad
Started in 2005....probably either never will finish, or sometime in the early, possibly mid 2010's when i'll be finished with it.
Just hoping people would still be around to even wanna try it out.

I have, but this was a few years ago. It's pretty well balanced out, though a little on the easy side once you get towards the end. Pretty good overall though.

Sorry to be blatantly off topic, but I have the extra mario bros zip file and dont know what to do with it. I've tried patching the japanese and us versions of mario 3 with the ips file in 162.zip but I get a cpu jam. Do I do something with the data folder in there?

Extra Mario Bros is a hack of Super Mario Bros. 1, not Mario 3.

Not released yet, and probably won't be for some time, but kejardon's Super Metroid Insanity hack is looking to be simply mind-blowing, from what's been seen of it.

Holy crap, I am too, and goddamnit If I didn't just notice it's not Silver.  :banghead:

My money's on Dragoon X Omega 2, and secondly DrewSeph's Super Metroid redesign, mainly because It's the only hack of a game I've ever played.
And because it's not just rearranged levels, it's had it's physics changed.

While not necessarily a ROM hack per say, one of the most impressive ROM hack related things I've ever heard of is a dissasmbly of Metroid that was cleaned up to the point that it can be cleanly reassembled. My (overly?) ambitous Final Fantasy Engine project is looking to do the same sort of thing (among others), so I can appreciate how difficult it is.

I haven't played everything out there (or even a small portion thereof), but I must say (as many others have already) that Dragoon X Omega II is the most extensive hack I've ever seen. It makes an entirely new game. It's not a ROM hack, it's a new game using Final Fantasy as the engine. If you found it on a random ROM site and wheren't told it was a hack, I doubt you'd be able to tell.

yeah, and the physics part.... that is why Metroid Insanity is going to be EPIC.
