which script are you using as a resource? hardtype or easytype?
I dumped the Japanese script from EasyType. That's what I've been translating.

It was easy using Mato's tools.
Most of the meteorite scene has been translated and some of Onett.

Gyiyg has its name kept from the Japanese Version.
That font is... Umm... Wow. Would it be possible to space it out better? I made a mockup.

Unfortunately, we are so far stuck with FWF fonts. Which means they have to be spaced out, like the ones from NES games.

But, I do believe a team member is working on VWF inserter which fixes the font and spacing!

If you examine professionally-designed monospaced fonts, you will notice that lowercase I’s and L’s nearly always have serifs included so that they don’t look so lonely inside words.

Stuff for the introduction:

And finally the canvas...! Now, this was easier than I expected:

HP/MP digits and 3D shadow still not working, will fix soon and upload new screens.

EDIT / digits and 3D shadow fixed:

I was also considering the idea of using this other 8x8 font (got it from another MegaTen title, forgot which one tho):

That intro font is pretty sexy, Gemini.

Also, as far as the 8x8 fonts go? The first one looks better to me, but the second one makes the commands stand out more.

It's the official PSP/PS3 font, "Eurostile", one of my personal favorites.

Yup, just the 8x8 one. The 16x16 dialog font is gonna stay as is, I'm making it entirely consistent with Persona 2 anyway.

I think the original poster was commenting more on the letters like lower-case y,p, and g having their lower halves not hanging, but level with the bottom of letters without hanging elements.

In his mockup, he didnt mess with the width, only the hanging letters.

In all honesty, there is zero reason not to design fonts with appropriately dangling letters unless you are doing an 8x8 font (and even then, only because you don't really have a choice).

Ladystalker's 8x8 is going to have a few of these, but they're an artifact of Landstalker's 8x8 font, which I've appropriated for the project. (The VWF is Landstalker's font, too.)

cool font, but the text leaves me scratching my head... Tongue

the alternate 8x8 isn't ugly, but imo the first one is much better in terms of readability. the k is a bit odd though, probably needs the height of the prong reduced to match the other lowercase letters (e.g., the o's).

BTW, if it hasnt been told to you enough, GOOD JOB!!
A proper english translation for the Mother 1+2 Gba rom is awesome!
I hope you make some real progress.
Is there perhaps another website or blog with more information concerning this project?

I appreciate your reply, but that's not what I meant--my mockup is fixed-width also. I meant with the lowercase p's and such being taller than the rest of the letters.

EDIT: ...Wow, I was ninja'd, and a few days ago at that. I fail at life.

There is a Facebook group (just search up Mother 2 GBA Translation) and the main thread http://earthboundcentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=526

And I am not really in charge of the lowercase stuff.

Boredom.  Got the 7th letter to show up in the menu and nameable now.  I'm using DeJap's translation as the base.  I always found it ludicrous how Chester's name was 7 letters but you could only name the first 6.  So changed it to 7.  I also removed the name portrait there.  I was aiming to make the screen look more like the PSX version.

The menu font is driving me nuts though.  I really want to modify it but apparently it's compressed from the looks of it -_-  So I can't do anything with it sadly.

Also, some fun notes:

7E6A92 - PC 1 Modifier
7E6B62 - NPC or PC 1.  Set to 01 for "NPC" Status

7E6B92 - PC 2 Modifier
7E6C62 - NPC or PC 2.  Set to 01 for "NPC" Status

7E6C92 - PC 3 Modifier
7E6D62 - NPC or PC 3.  Set to 01 for "NPC" Status

7E6D92 - PC 4 Modifier
7E6E62 - NPC or PC 4.  Set to 01 for "NPC" Status

00 = Nothing
01 = Cless
02 = Mint
03 = Arche
04 = Chester
05 = Rambard
06 = Klarth
07 = Lia
08 = Morrison (In Intro) - Thanks Vivi
09 = Alain Alvein (In Intro) - Thanks Vivi
0A = Carole Adenade (In Intro) - Thanks Vivi
