I hope so too. I like action games and I like challenges, but I don't want to have to exploit every glitch or secret there is to beat boss 1 or anything. A game just right, not too hard but not so mind-numbingly easy either.

Super Metroid's difficulty balance is wonderful. Same with Super Mario World, though it's a little less perfect. Hackers tend to forget that these games are "easy" because we've gotten used to running the games in certain ways. We're used to the level layouts and we're used to the baddies. Rearrange everything - even just the placements of the enemies, not even adding new enemies - and our preconceptions get upended. There's no need to actively try to make a game "hard" to stump players.

I agree fully. I had enough of nearly impossible challenge hacks years ago.

Oh, and my one suggestion is that if you want to do something fun with the "Energy" display, take a cue from Zone of the Enders and just go with "NRG" Cheesy

EN-AR-GEE. NRG.

...That's so awesome. It beats ENG or whatever. BTW, THAT looks awesome... What system?

I've heard of Zone of the Enders but the only one I ever tried out was this GBA one... It was... lame...

I'll hunt this game down for sure though. The destruction in that screenshot looks so beautiful that it looks like it came out of a movie or something... O_O

Edit: Whoa, it's a game by Hideo Kojima!!

Yeah, wow. That game looks LOADS better than the first one. Surprisingly so. I guess I need to track down a copy.

Ice metal will be slightly harder as some of the more harder enemies can be encountered earlier on in the game. But beside that it should not be hard combat wise.

The hack is after all more exploration based then combat based. Tongue

Wait, so does that mean you'll put easier enemies later on or you'll just keep encountering the same enemies over and over again?

I decidedly like the Super Nintendo version Breath of Fire's font better than the GameBoy Advance version's font. And after playing masaki's color restoration mod, I thought, "Hey, why not make it even more like the SNES version?"

I had to add that drop shadow in the third picture by hand. Afterwords, I had to edit it so it wouldn't look so boxy with the smoothing.

Now, you might be curious, seeing the fourth picture, as to what I did with the 8x8 font. Well, I was initially going to do a smaller version of the 8x16 font...but then I saw that the stupid "graying out the black normally used for shadows" issue was replicated here, only this time, it was "graying out the gray normally used for smoothing". Since the original Breath of Fire barely used smoothing for what little 8x8 font it had (It basically consisted of the uppercase letters and the numbers 0-9), I decided to steal another game's. Which game?

Final Fantasy IV for the Super FamiCom. No, not any of the translations, either--I mean, untranslated, no modifications.

...Though as you can see, I did make some mods to the font. Not many, though. Mainly, I edited a few uppercase letters to be more consistent with the rest of the uppercase letters, and the uppercase "A" and the "2" are from Lufia & the Fortress of Doom.

I might release this, though without masaki's color mod.

EDIT: Also, in the 8x16 font, I edited the lowercase "g". This is because I was trying to make the lowercase letters that were supposed to hang down actually hang. So like the lowercase "p" hangs lower than the "a" instead of being the same height... Anyway, I couldn't find a decent look for the original lowecase "G", so I made an edit of the "y".

The default 8x8 font in FFIV looks like crap. If you're going to do that, use the normal FF 8x8 font, or the FF Advance font (that you can find in the RHDN font archive). Or, if you want a good 8x8 font from a Japanese game, I suggest Estpolis (Lufia) II. It has a great looking default 8x8 font.

No... ^.^;

More like, you can go and fight harder enemies early on in the game as it's much more open... Or you can explore the areas with easier enemies first! Tongue

Why not use the BoF2 (original translation) SNES 8x8 font?

That's really the SFC FF4 font?  Shocked
Because I would've guessed it was the Lufia 1 US 8x8 font. (I knew the uppercase/numbers were already plagiarizing, that is... if you can copyright a font?)
