Snes9x 1.41-1 also craps out on DL, sadly.

I'm not sure what exactly causes the crash, but I do know it can take a while to show up.  I think one time I past scenario 8 before I encountered the bug...

Besides my own personal experience, D has confirmed this himself.

damn o_O

wow, congratulations.

one thing i'm curious about... so taking all the individual files and zipping them into one file would count as modification of the distribution?

So, we're not allowed to modify the files, but could someone pack up all the patchers and the manual into one archive to upload here?

Derrick says:
btw, please inform spikeman:
Derrick says:
NO. That goes against the license
Derrick says:
they will just have to have 3 files

So, no.

I've waited for this translation for so long

So far i've tested 3 emulators for Der Langrisser

ZSNES seems to start slowing down every 5-10 minutes
snesx9 does the same thing
bsnes works perfectly fine, but for some wierd reason i have trouble trying to target my troops sometimes because the cursor goes over them really quickly

Yes, all versions of ZSNES and SNES9x have had this same bug for at least seven years now. And we've seen the bug reported to them every year. I even gave advanced notice that we were releasing and that this bug existed, hoping it would be fixed. I actually planned to block playing the games in either ZSNES or SNES9x. The only things that stopped me were time and the personal feeling that it would be unprofessional for an SNES translation to detect the presence of emulators.

Unfortunately, this is sure to result in hundreds, maybe thousands, of combined hours of lost playtime for many people who simply cannot read. Along with countless false bug reports, where people wrongly assume the bug is my fault. And Nightcrawler thought his WOZZ cursor bug was annoying and took forever to get fixed ...

Are you running at 60fps? If so, that's the realtime speed. Try changing the game speed option from fast to normal (use start or select on the battle map to get to the options). It might make it a little easier for you. If you are getting more than 60fps, then try changing the settings->speed regulation options. You want that turned on and set to normal speed.

Alternatively, there is also SNEeSe and SNESGT. They may be capable of playing the game. None of us have played the game very long in either emulator. My experiences show that SNEeSe is the more accurate of the two, but SNESGT has a nicer GUI. I would recommend either over ZSNES and SNES9x for specifically playing Der Langrisser any day.

Lastly, I deeply apologize about bsnes' speed. I never had any idea that this emulator bug would remain to this day, despite seven years of advanced notice. Despite being in the perfect position to create a true alternative to these emulators that everyone could use, I ended up being too focused on accuracy over speed, and as a result ... it appears at least 70% of people interested in this translation have absolutely no way of playing Der Langrisser at fullspeed without periodic crashing or resorting to playing the game in sickeningly inferior monoraul sound. This game has one of the best soundtracks on the SNES, it deserves stereo sound.

Had I know this bug would still remain to this day in ZSNES9x, I would have tried much harder to at least have two forks of bsnes -- even without the rigorous accuracy, I'm sure I could have done a better job ensuring the game would be fully playable.

The name byuu really is fitting sometimes ...

I'm on scenario 7, and I am addicted. Now I know where Suikoden's battles come from. Smiley

I am playing it on ZSNES because I wish to have super fast forward on button press and save states.
I have "stereo sound enabled" unchecked which seems to prevent freezing. No bugs so far. No slowdown.

The mono sound is not that bad, the music is awesome. I mean, I didn't have a stereo TV until I got a playstation. It's the same music.

Thanks for hacking this game byuu, I'm enjoying it.

Yeah. I'm also still naively hopeful they'll fix the sound bug eventually. It would suck to have it blocked when that happens. The emulators are otherwise both awesome with the exception of this one very serious bug.

Oh yeah, and it'll end up on ROM sites, too. But I have a special little treat for Cowering. He claims the reason he indexes our translations is because he's too lazy to ignore when people send him the checksums to said games. He'll have fun in the knowledge that every single Der Langrisser patch has a different checksum. I hope he has fun indexing all ten thousand variations of our patch. I encourage you all to send him your ROMs. In fact, run the patch multiple times and send him each variation. Tell him I said hello. Obviously, he'll just pick one to index, but he won't have an excuse anymore as to why he chooses to treat the members of our community like shit and ignore our requests to remove our works from his ROM piracy list.

Just kidding.  I downloaded the archive again, and received a complete download.

And to be on topic, smashing job, Team DL.  I just played scenario 1 in bsnes at scale2x using NTSC filter.  I had to use frameskip 1 in order to make this computer keep up, though.  The sound quality really adds to the experience.
