RPGone's work is really buggy and has quite a few translation errors. I want to rehack this game. Anybody have the project tools or even a table file to help boost me off?

Didn't Skyrender work with DQ1+2 or was that FFVI? It couldn't hurt to contact him as he worked with RPGOne.
Any plans to pick up DQ4 PSX? :/

Everyone always asks me that. Someone else is secretly fiddling with DQ4. I think it may have been skyrender. I'm not sure. I just don't want to have to get someone to ID kanji for me.

That's already been done: He only worked on a very small hack, and doesn't have the source code.
=\\
As I said on byuu's board, there is the possibility ChrisRPG's code died with him(Sad...).

Guys,as a huge fan of DQ series,i played thru DQ 1&2 with that translation and i don't think that it needs a re-translation.We can easily understand story and the dialogues with that.I think you should focus on DQ games that remains untranslated

According to the readme Gideon Zhi might have the files... I joined up with Fear Gaia, who for personal reasons left the scene a few months later. I continued working on the game with my friend, Arch Demon, from a Portuguese translation/hacking group, and then made contact with other people in the scene, Dark Force, Byuu, spSpiff, and a few other poeple really helped me out. Byuu and I joined efforts after that. I became very ill, and "disappeared" for a few months. When I returned in better health with a new computer and no files for the project, Byuu was not hacking actively. I really wanted to finish the game. By some miracle, I was contacted by Gideon Zhi who had the files from Byuu that I needed. So I set out to complete the project with translated English scripts by spSpiff. After much aggravation, personal sacrifices, help from many different people, and lots of time and headaches, it is finally done!
The final result is this patch, which I hope is our last patch necessary for this game. Thanks to everyone who offered any words of encouragement, or a helping hand when it was needed.

Anywho some of the translation errors that need to be fixed are: 1. The location of Erdrick's Token is inverted (North and West instead of South and East) (DQ1) 2. You don't get the best clue to find the sunken treasure. Any newbie playing the game will end up tearing their hair out. (Should be a directional clue)(DQ2) Some Bugs: 1. The Echo Flute doesn't echo when it should. (At least in the fire shrine) Really hurts first time players. 2. Sometimes the map corrupts itself in the Water Shrine. 3. The chance spell does not function correctly 50%~ of the time.

Other translation errors. Dragon quest 2 In the japanese naming they have dialog names as the english names sometimes but you end up getting the japanese item. Confusing and annoying. Dialog loops, dear god the dialog loops! After you beat the boss there is a nun you can speak to right outside in a shrine. I ended up having to beat the boss twice because of her! When the prince is sick dialog loops and you have a 50/50 chance of getting out of it. Its all luck there.
Yeah those are the worst parts. The rest is basically fine.

I played through DQ I without issue, but I did already know where to go. DQ II however had several show-stopping bugs, the most obvious one being when the prince gets sick at the hotel, I had to do a lot of save state trickery to get past that one. That was something to do with name length limits somehow too I think. Like the name I had given him at the beginning was too long somehow if I recall. It's been awhile now though.
It would be nice to see a fully bugtested version. I'd love to get a repro of it sometime.

Tell me about that, and he got himself banned here also which is even more depressing itself since it may delay both this retranslation and the DQ6 one if that happeneds to be the issue, besides he is the one that has source code to the 6502 programming, including how to reprogram the font locations and even do huffmen compression as well as mapper fixes, It is too bad Neil is not willing to help out since he was the one that helped with Dejap and Partial Translations for DQ5 on the SNES, besides knowing this is a Chun Soft based game, bugs are bound to be plenty, since there is code that makes it much like taking apart Zelda 3(due to similar code), and that makes me cringe on it. Thankfully Font compression will not be a problem, except it is using a reverse design for the larger fonts of the game. Oh and dq5r and Piotyr, one other bug was also not noted in the event, in the battle mode, it seems when some memory access occors in the dialog part of the box, it may cause 2 things, the music to aburuptly mis-function or freeze and 2 it freezes up the game(maybe on some points blacks out or kludges then crashes the game and possiblity the emulator), thought I wanted to add that guys.

I support this hack. I would also beta test the hack if not for the fact that I have been through this game basically 3 times only beating it once. Never again man, never again.

Well even though this may delay DQ6 SNES, I say that this game should get it's fixes and small retranslated parts to be recorrected, of course if the script had to be re-done, then to make it easier, just use the table file and put the whole thing in ASCII so all the characters would be easier to modify and add the code to the correct areas that would need such fixes, that way it advoids using the unused parts of the memory and likely leave room for adding something else.
