I'm thinking of starting on a translation of Tales of Rebirth, but I've hit a snag. Most of the files in this games are in *.bin files (dat.bin, fld.bin and mov.bin) so I need to extract the files to be able to do anything with them. (like subbing the videos) I will be getting someone to help me with problems like this, but they will only be able to help me in a months time. I would like to start this now so does anybody have an idea on how I can extract the movies and such from these *.bin files? This is ps2 version btw.

That would be surprising. .bin is an unusual format in that it can kind of be anything. It's just a container. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_fileI could be wrong about ultraiso not being able to open the files, however.

Ultraiso does not work. I can see in the SLPS_254.50 file when it opens the bin files, but I have no idea what to do with that information or if I can do anything with that information ^^;

Don't worry, I was just joking. But at some point it will happen for real, so be prepared. I do hope everything goes well though, and wish you and anyone else involved good luck.

d-don't jinx it... Xbox360's sold out in Japan because of Vepseria, maybe now Microsoft will want to take on more Tales games? (From what I've seen...) Most japanese developed games for 360 have made their way over here, so woot.

Maybe you, or SOMEBODY, should translate the PSP version rather than this one. The PSP is a WAY more accessible than translating a ps2 game.

Jigga wha? It’s not really all that much better or worse if you know what you’re doing.

It is better to work on the PSP version, actually. You can have access to a decent debugger which runs on the PSP, you don't need any emulators to test the changes (PCSX2 is still vely bloken) and you can launch the game from your PC HD using a USB cable, and PSP ISOs are easier to rebuild than Ps2 ISOs (if you need them). Also the fact that PSP uses more standardized formats.

Hmm.. I'll do the version that is easiest and currently it's the psp version. (since I have access to the movies from the start) I still need to figure out how to open/modify dat.bin where the script most likely is. I'm gonna need some help on this game so if anyone want to help me it'd me much appreciated.. ^^; Here's a little teaser for you. (It's about what I'm able to do with this game atm) http://tommy.koselig.net/div/Tales_of_Rebirth/tor_op.aviThe movies are named .pss, but they're really pmf's with atrac3 sound (possibly atrac3+) I'm able to convert all the files, but when I try to do it with tor_pr.pss (the prologue movie) it gets lots of corrupted parts.. :/ They use 264 so there shouldn't really be any problems with the video so I don't really know what's happening..
