Seems like the new link to the movie patch at the Bloody Bride translation page is a dead link. And while the girl that comes up when you click the link is cute and all... it's, it's just not what I was there to find, you know?

Does anyone still have this and can throw it on Rapidshare or something? I would be quite appreciative!

Have you tried searching torrents? I'd probably say that you could get it at underground gamer.

Hello Smiley

The only thing I can find on torrent sites is a fully patched ISO. Which is understandable since it's what most people want anyways, after all, but I'm looking for just the patch itself.

Maybe I can email HairRaiser or something.

Apologies for the necropost, but I confirmed with Spinner 8 that he still hadn't obtained the file.  So here's a mirror for the movie subtitle patch via MegaUpload, in case anyone wants it.  It's 177 MB, so I doubt it'll stay hosted on many sites.  This has to be applied in addition to the translation patch in the database.  It's in PPF format, so I imagine that you apply it in the same fashion as the translation patch.  This will of course require that you have your own copy of the game.

Funny how you find all sorts of things in the file archives.

¡Que bueno! Here is another, more public thank you! :)

Now I just need that damned Cotton ISO and I'll be set.

¡No se preocupe!  I'm glad to be of service.  Also, which Cotton ISO were you looking for?  I'm sure I ran across at least one in my archives the other day, and I'd be willing to check again for you.

I'm looking for the original distribution of Cotton by R.I.P. Translations, both 1.10 and 1.00. There's a little more information in this thread here.

I'm also looking for any really old Final Fantasy V patches. Actually I've got a list of things I'm looking for, but these are the highest priority. Wink

I've got two copies of the translated cotton image, both packaged in ZIP files.  Both appear to be the 1.00 translation version.  Unfortunately, both ZIP archives have a text file placed in them by a download site, but other than that appear to be fine.  Further details:

cottonbin.zip contains:
Cotton Translated.bin (39,273,696 bytes)
Cotton Translated.cue (83 bytes)
Downloaded From TM.txt (54 bytes)

Cotton.zip contains:
cotton.ISO (39,268,992 bytes)
Downloaded From TM.txt (54 bytes)
readme.txt (3,066 bytes; identical to "R.I.P. Translations.txt" file located in the CDATA folder on the images)

I did a binary comparison of the files in the images and the image content (the binary files in the images) for both files is identical.  They are merely in a different format.  I'm inclined to think that the "cottonbin.zip" file is the older file.  However, if you're a purist about this sort of thing, you won't want it due to the small text file that's been added to the archive.  Sorry, doesn't look like I have the original archive, unless it's on CD somewhere, and I won't find it there for a long time.  I'll let you know if anything changes.

Good evening.

I have two in my archives that spring to mind.

The first is the original FFV RPGe release v0.96 from October 15, 1997 which you may already have.  I was actually able to still find this floating around on legacy websites, but if you'd like it please let me know.

The second is more interesting in that I have been unable to find a reproduction of it online.  It's a "retranslation" patch created by Sean Daugherty and formerly hosted by the now defunct Sky Render Translations.  It dates back to October 30, 1999.  It uses the RPGe v1.10 patched version of FFV as its target and modifies various spell names, character names ("Krile" instead of "Cara"), changes the 8x8 font and performs other miscellaneous adjustments which I can't really identify.  The Readme files from both Sean Daugherty and Sky Render Translations do not mention anything about not redistributing this patch.  I honestly have more memories of this file than the original RPGe translation.  If you are interested in this file, and also believe it may be a good candidate for submission to the Romhacking archives, please let me know as well.

Have a good day.

EDIT: Seems it's still out there after all, although modern search engines refused to turn this up:

http://sky_render.tripod.com/ff5sean.html

That being said, my memory must be a bit off because I keep getting a buggy result when I reapply this adjustment to the 1.10 RPGe translation.  Certain characters are corrupted and the magic / skill menu is corrupted, as well as the "HP" indicator on the battle screen.  I might be doing something wrong, but I've tried both modern (LunarIPS, IPSWin) and legacy (SNESTool, IPS, UCON) patching programs and they all produce the same consistent result.  Also, removing the header when applying it is right out and corrupts the graphics as well.  Really not sure about this at the moment.  Perhaps it had this corruption issue to begin with, but honestly I don't remember that happening.

Meanwhile I've managed to turn up a third legacy translation / hack for FFV called "Final Fantasy V Enhancement" dating back to August 13, 2002.  I thought the IPS was lost since Dark Knight Kain's website(s) no longer exist, but I ended up finding the original IPS and readme in a six year old archive of the Zophar translation/hacks page.  It provides a cleaner font enhancement than the previously mentioned patch, and also retranslates more items/monsters/abilities/jobs to be in line with actual/modern Final Fantasy translations rather than those of FF3US which the RPGe translation tends to approximate more.  It seems to fully use the RPGe translated dialogue, and the patch developer is clear in stating this.  I notice Butz was changed to Bartz as the default name inline with the North American naming used in Final Fantasy Anthology (which would have been the only "official" translation of the game at the time this patch was released).  I'm curious if the Cara/Krile naming was also adjusted, it seems likely but one would have to play through the game to confirm it.  This is another patch for the record books if you're interested.

I've been looking for that patch. I've seen it for download on a few old sites, but they were all either broken links or (in archive.org's case) corrupted. If you could show me where to go, or make it available yourself, I'd very much appreciate it. Showing me where to go would be the best option for me, so I can go there and see what else I may be missing. Smiley

As for the rest, er... Thanks, but I'm not really looking for hacks, just translation patches.

Edit: Not two minutes after posting this, I find FFV version 1.00 on Dorando, packaged along with a partial Korean translation. Awesome! Nobody would happen to have any really old FFII Famicom patches, would they? Cheesy

I ended up finding the v1.00/v1.01 patch earlier this afternoon.  They are identical, the only difference between them is the documentation file.

As for the v0.96 patch, here's a still-living link:

http://members.fortunecity.com/dreamwarrior/trans.html

Specific link:

http://members.fortunecity.com/dreamwarrior/ff5e.zip

CRC of the IPS file matches that of other v0.96 patches I've found.  I can personally verify their functionality; the resulting translated image also matches the CRC of the "X.X-RPGe" entry for Final Fantasy V in the GoodSNES database from 2005.  It seems this is in fact the CRC for v0.96 of the RPGe translation.

This patch should be the oldest public patch of FFV from RPGe outside of one of the earlier leaked betas which someone else claimed credit for.

Also, regarding the hacks, I need to clarify this as it's been driving me nuts for the past day and I only finally resolved it...

After testing it on v0.96, v1.00/v1.01 and v1.10 RPGe translations, it seems that the Sean Daugherty adjustment was actually designed for the v0.96 release from RPGe despite the date.  There are no corruption issues aside from the "HP" graphic on the battle screen, everything else functions properly.  Applying the adjustment to the v1.00/v1.01 and v1.10 versions of the translations results in corruption issues I described above.  Furthermore, after tinkering around somewhat, it seems the issues resolved are not quite as detailed as advertised.

I hope this has been of some help to you and anyone else interested in game translation history.

Awesome! I actually did find a few patches from there that I'm missing, like an old version of Villgust SNES and that first Getsufuuma Densetsu patch. Thank very much for the link. Smiley Where did you find those 1.00 and 1.01 patches? I'd like to take a look at them.

You're welcome!  As for the 1.00/1.01 patch, I found them in astudent's public home directory, which on investigation happened to have the original IPS and documentation file.  I will PM this information to you directly.  It is the v1.00 patch and documentation.

For anyone else who is following along, you won't be missing out on anything exclusive.  The IPS/documentation CRCs are identical to the ones bundled with the Korean patch pack at Dorando, so you can proceed to get them from here if you're interested:

http://dorando.emuverse.com/download/final-fantasy-5.118.zip

---

Next, according to the documentation that comes with the v1.10 patch:

Quote
v1.10 (10/17/98):
- Updated this file a bit
- Patch file has been fixed to reflect spelling fixes

v1.01 (06/18/98):
- Officially posted on RPGe
- Updated this file a bit
- No change to actual patch, sorry

v1.00 (06/16/98):
- The Ending
- Job names
- Completed script
- Long item names
- Fixed up bugs
- A few other random things

v0.96 (10/17/97):
- First public release.

From this it becomes clear that there isn't really a v1.01 patch, but rather a v1.00/v1.01 patch.  Only the bundled documentation is supposed to have changed regarding which website it was originally distributed on.  The v1.00 documentation actually refers to some internal RPGe drama at the time.

I have been unable to locate a copy of the v1.01 documentation.  I did find reference to a now deceased link for a "ff5ev101.zip", this may be the file to look for if you are interested in finding that documentation, otherwise you technically already have the patch.  If anyone happens to have such a file personally archived with the IPS and documentation, for sake of completeness it would be nice to make it publicly available again.

Also, I'd like to point out a quick "false link" for a v1.01 patch:

http://samuraigoroh.googlepages.com/ffv

The false patch:

http://samuraigoroh.googlepages.com/FinalFantasy5RPGver1_01.ips

This person created the patch from an already patched ROM while intending to assist someone on the GameFAQs/GameSpot boards.  Unfortunately, they were mistaken.  Upon applying this patch, the resulting CRC is identical to a v0.96 patched version of FFV.  While I'm sure they had the best of intentions, it must be stressed that this is functionally equivalent to a v0.96 patch and not a v1.00/v1.01 patch.  However, with both v0.96 and v1.00/v1.01 patch links having been found alive (for the time being) and listed earlier in this thread, it should be possible at this time to recreate any public revision of the RPGe translation of Final Fantasy V.

---

On the subject of FF2j, there was definitely a v1.00 patch from Neo Demiforce, but of course only v1.03 is easily found.  I've only found one link for the original v1.00 (and several news posts from 1998), but they all refer to Neo Demiforce's original ISP-based website.  Long dead, and archive.org didn't have anything from it.  I'll check my personal archives and see if I happen to have anything other than v1.03 later this weekend.
