Well, I'm somewhat new to this site, so I'm not exactly sure where this goes. I hope I'm on the right board.

Anyway, I'm sure some of you know about the infamous Final Fantasy VII NES ROM that has been floating around lately. If you aren't familiar to this, check out the following article -

http://cinnamonpirate.com/blog/507/

Anyway, this isn't your usual ROM...it's base language is in Chinese. Now, this wouldn't really be a problem, but from what I can tell, about 99% of translations are for Japanese to English, so trying to find someone who would be able to do such a project seems unlikely.

So, I'm just wondering, do any of you know any translators or translation teams that deal with Chinese to English translations? I'm going to try and rip the fonts out later, but that is about all I think I can do...I'm by no means an experienced hacker, so this in itself is going to be a quite a challange for me. But I imagine finding someone who deals in Chinese is going to be an even bigger challange.

I know I should be putting this in the Help Wanted section, but right now what I'm focused on is just even trying to know if there are even any people to make this possible before I make any such plans to start this project. I'm hoping someone can help, because word on the horizon is that there is a ROM of a downgraded Chrono Trigger out there as well, which I'm sure people would be interested as well in getting translated. It also is in Chinese. Heres the article.

Oh, by the way, if any of you are interested in checking out the FFVII NES game, here is the link to the download page -

Click "FC Roms" and look for the letters VII..it shouldn't be to hard to find.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my post. It's greatly appreciated.

D already provided files for Feidian for ripping the fonts...

I'm still waiting for someone to translate the Biohazard NES ROM. It uses Chinese, too.

I want someone to translate the Chinese Harvest Moon NES version.

There's quite a few really nice looking Chinese pirate NES games, even an NES version of Super Mario World.

I think hacking Chinese roms is harder because they don't use just one tile per character or one byte per character, so you'd need an experienced rom hacker to rewrite how the game displays text.

As I've said before, I don't mind translating screenshots or bits and pieces of text posted here on the forum, but I don't want to commit anything.

I've done that before and felt pretty bad about failing to live up to my commitment.

That's fine. But hey,  if you'd be willing to do a few pictures or maybe a video or something, just to give us a taste of what this game could be like in English, that'd be great.

I'm still searching earnestly for someone who could do this whole thing, though. If you know of anyone, that would be great if you could direct me.

The weird thing though, is that I didn't even care for the original FFVII that much. Irony, mayhaps?

You could probably use the PS1 English script.

Well just shoot me some pictures or a video and I'll do my best to translate it. That's the best I can offer.

From this video:

这是什么地方?
What kind of place is this? What is this place?

好大的房子。
Woah, it's such a huge place.

Ok, I'm knackered. I'm off to sleep but I'll continue tomorrow. It's a real pleasure to read, the characters are really clean and it's easy to make them out.

I wouldn't mind handling some of the hacking and insertion if someone would match up the psx script and we could translate it similar.

Redland,

What do you want me to transfer anyway? All of those menus and whatnot or just the dialogues?

Man that combat must've been one of the longest and most boring thing I've experienced this century.

Yeah, the battle system sucks. Everything takes forever...leveling up, killing enemies...

Anyway, the main dialogue will do just fine. But if you are willing to do menus and such, that would would be great.

We could just do a hack to increase the characters starting strength. That should help.

But that would make the game easier as the enemies would remain weak.

I think what is really needed with this hack is a drastic speed increase.

Hell, what this game needs is Vincent and Yuffie. It needs summons. It needs Limit Breaks, Chocobo Breeding and racing, the Weapons, Fort Condor,  the Highwind.... the list goes on.

A lot of stuff was cut, as you can tell. Though it's understandable since it's the NES, so much was cut that when you find out about it, you feel that the game loses some soul, and you lose interest or motivation to play. I guess it's just an example of the system...you simply can't fit such a large scale game onto a NES cart.

Though I'm sure everone's main priority when it is getting a translation done, it would be awesome if someone could hack the game and put a few things back in, most notably Vincent and Yuffie....the Weapons are also extremely important. I could live without everything else, as I'm sure many people could.
