It seems May of 2006 was the last time there was any substantial public news updates on any of the projects.
http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,3258.htmlhttp://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,3426.htmlTo be fair I've probably made -more- updates to agtp that haven't shown up here, I don't think, but that was what the new layout for -me- was supposed to help with: keeping things more up-to-date with the public. And it's helped, I've just been dragged across the fire the last few months :p

Hmm, I could have swore though that I heard lots of complains in the past about the difficult of hacking Dragon Quest games, although maybe that was more in reference to the PSX games? Like the PSX version of Monsters and DQIVr. Or maybe this was from DQV or DQVI before the compression methods and whatnot were as well known. I don't want to offend ... but these were outright lies. Enix made this excuse when dropping DW5. Some other groups (ahem) in the past claimed the games were super hard and the Japanese games themselves were buggy, and how the Japanese script was modified to work around these bugs. Totally untrue. Their compression methods? The games used huffman, an algorithm from 1952. Compared to something I recently looked at for Gideon o.O, the DQ games were positively delightful to work on. To slightly misquote a brilliant line from Tomato, huffman is the ROM hackers' "newbie pesticide" :) And generally I go out of my way to avoid bashing anyone. Well, unless they really deserve it. If anything I say rubs any of you the wrong way, just ignore it, as it probably just came out wrong. =P No offense taken. Just wanted to clarify that I didn't sit idly by on DQ3r by choice. It's a beautiful game that I would've loved to have worked on back in the day. It seems May of 2006 was the last time there was any substantial public news updates on any of the projects. I don't follow, but if you're meaning with RPGOne ... rumor has it that the last donation was a Toughbook ... so it's taking a little longer than usual to go through ;)

This all brings up an interesting point on status updates. Why the hell hasn't anyone written a news post about the progress they're making on their projects? When I update my site I notice that people quickly expect more and more updates right away. When you stop updating (maybe you only worked on it for a short time) they get relentless and ask "Is the project dead now" all the time. I'm almost at the point at which I think not telling about the project at all until it's completely done is the best option. The only problem with that is the lack of advertising for potential translators.

CLARIFICATION:Wow, I think everybody had no idea what I was talking about. When I said there were no significant project status updates since May of 2006, I was referring to the RPGOne site! Even on THEIR site, there was no progress shown in the news since May 2006. So, how is any common RPGOne fan supposed to know anything about any of their projects? That was my point. Their page shows no project updates in a long time. Based on that, you'd logically have to assume nothing has been done since last year. Getting the news to RHDN is another issue altogether. KaioShin, you've just illustrated another reason why I continue to do classic obscure games. I have no problems with relentless people asking if the project is dead when I haven't updated. Rarely does anybody bother to e-mail or contact me for any reason. Those that are interested in the SNES projects are of an old enough age they know better than to harass me. You've got the younger, more inconsiderate GBA crowd.

Well hopefully it gets finished, am really wantin to play it . I was gonna play dragon warrior 3 for nes but then i ended up stummbling acrossed this game so i cant wait ^^. You could play the GBC version. Ick. I agree. Although the graphics for GBC were nice, the problem I had with the games I, II, & III on GBC, is that they dumbed down the difficulty to the point where there was no challenge whatsoever. Playing the same game on a NES emulator would be more challenging. I tested this out, since I was beginning to think my mind was playing tricks on me. It wasn't. LOL Can't wait to fire up DQ3r on my SNES

You mean you don't count, "PLZ GIV ME STUF" as an update?

I didn't see any project progress reporting in those updates, so no, that's correct, they did not count because they were not informative on project status to the public. Careful.. Mr. Snarky, no bashing allowed even when cleverly hidden amongst a message posing as clarification to the clarification.

I haven't been going to back to your blog too often since you don't update that many times... Man... But don't you have some sort of system where you check the comments before you let me get posted? Or am I thinking about someone else's blog?

At least they show me there is actually interest in the stuff I do. After all I'm not forced to answer, but deleting them... I don't want to censor the comments. I'm so happy to get comments, some sites of scene old timers get little to no comments at all and I get 30+ on some news updates. That's making me proud and it's the biggest enjoyment I get out of this hobby.

I know it's been awhile since someone posted in this topic, but I just wanted to express my wholehearted support for DaMarsMan and everyone else working on this project. Believe that at least one person is waiting for your glorious rendition of Dragon Quest III on the Super Nintendo with baited breath.
