out of curiosity, what programs are you guys using? i currently have the two visualboy advance hacks on this site (Tracer VBA and VBA-SDL-H). the first lets you dump a large amount of code pretty roughly, and the latter lets you use breakpoints, etc. so far i've sort of used the two in conjunction to search the codedump from the former using addresses obtained from the latter. any better ways to do it?

That's basically what I do, Kajitani. I use Tracer VBA to get a general idea of what's going on and then use VBA-SDL-H to refine my understanding.

honestly, i'm more interested in ease of usability than whether it can run on a 66mhz 486dx2 or not. though of course, if it is highly functional, highly usable, and fast, that's ideal.
on the other hand, it's "only" $15, and it IS a piece of software i've played around with a decent amount over the years (remember no$gb for DOS?).

No$GBA is very functional, highly usable, and fast. Before I discovered it I used VBA-SDL-H. I can do something that took me an hour in VBA-SDL-H in a minute in No$GBA, that's how much better it is. It also has more accurate emulation than anything else I've seen if you're worried about that.

Translation: I could probably hack a fully-functioning VWF into Sylvanian Families 4 inside a week. O_O;

Jeez guys thanks. The post count goes up from 14 to 24 in the one day i've been out. And for what? Everyone wants to talk about GBA emulators. Great. Anyways, about that Kajitani... Yea I had been doing the same thing as you until I found out VBA-Tracer doesn't log lines of opcode that were previously logged. So if a loop happened more than once I wouldn't see it, it would skip directly to what happened afterwards, which was really confusing at first. So I dropped VBA Tracer unless I knew I didn't need to see anything happening more than once. VBA-SDL-H on the other hand is great except it's a little tough to be sure how many lines of code to log (Because you have to specifically tell it how many). So what I do is make multiple logs of say 20,000 or so, and hope I find what I need somewhere within those logs. Usually it turns out to be the very first one though, so it's usually alright. If I could get no$gba i'd try that out. It sounds great. GBA tools seem kind of half-ass compared to other systems, ya know? I really wish it didn't cost money though. Maybe if I had the means to pay for it, with ease mind you. -- (No I don't even have 15$ to my name right now.) Anyways, I'll get cracking on this code again soon and see what I come up with for Summon Night 3: English

Am I of the minority? I've been working since I was 15... Don't you have a job? I'm sure you could muster $15 if you tried.

Where doth thou live? Living in Michigan, I've only had three jobs in my life (this is partially my fault, I chose not to work during HS so I could get better grades for my transcripts), and I can't find work now, because I'm in the state with the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the country. Add on the fact that I'm lower-middle class, and live in a neighborhood that is such, with no car. Yeah, it's practically impossible to find a job.
Then again, if I needed $15 that badly, I'd find a way to get it.

You don't have a local McDonald's or a Walmart that's hiring? I don't know if I believe that one. For someone who doesn't have $15 dollars, that's certainly a viable option. One reason you don't have a car is because you choose not work during highschool... I worked shitty jobs and had enough to buy a car in highschool by the time I got a license at 17. Full time work in the summer and some part time work during the school year was all it took. I paid for my car insurance, all my expenses etc.. How can you pay for anything without working? Somebody else must be footing the bills. Lazy kids these days. Lazy or lucky. I'm not entirely sure. I suppose I would probably have done nothing as well if I could have gotten away with it. I suppose now you kids know why I'm so bitter and detest work and the social framework it comes with. I'm somewhat young and have already been doing it a long f'in time.

Actually, living in Michigan, I can confirm that even most of the fast food joints and stores like Meijers and Wal-Mart aren't hiring. People with jobs are holding on to them for dear life, more people keep getting laid off, and most people who get hired either already have experience for the position or are a quota hire. It's really shitty here right now.
