It's "Akuma". As in...

I already explained at the end of my last post: "akuma" means "demon". Or "devil"...not as in the Devil, mind you, but since the word "demon" written in katakana has a special meaning in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, my own personal translations for card names use "devil" where the Japanese says "akuma".

You have the use of the "-kun" suffix about right; it's something of a male-form "-chan"...maybe "Li'l Devil"? XD

Yes I noticed that it was makai after Ii woke back up yesterday,
And I decided that I would put an emulator on here and remove it before my friends get back.
So here is the screen shot.

Anotherthing is no matter witch one you buy afterwards they disappear and don't appear anywhere as  reusable items.

Those look a bit like the symbols used on those cards they use in ESP testing.

If I were to guess, I don't think that's an item shop...I think it's a magic shop. As in, each of those are a spell or ability you can buy. Possibly.

Is there any dialogue associated with the shop menu you can show me?

First screen: "Welcome. What would you like to buy?"

I'm assuming the leftmost option brings up the funny symbols; it says まもじ ("mamoji"), which I assume is 魔文字, literally "demon letters" or "magic letters". You might prefer something like "glyphs" or "runes" in your translation. "Signs"?

The middle is ほりだしもの, or 掘り出し物 ("horidashimono"): JWPce's dictionary gives "(n) (lucky) find, bargain, good buy, treasure trove"""; I guess "Rare Items" or "Junk Shop" might apply, but since we're pressed for space, why not just label the option "Special"?

Third option is やめる, "Quit".

Second screen: "You have 0 (Circle). How many would you like to buy?" followed by the counter for choosing how many you want.

Third screen: "1 (Circle) is 10G." followed by the options "Buy" or "Quit" (maybe "Cancel" might be more appropriate in both places).

So the symbols are "mamoji", which depending on your taste we'll probably call "glyphs" or "runes" or, if you're in a .hack/Naruto mood, "signs". Dunno what they're good for yet, but we'll find out.

Sorry I am late again, Thing is I could put the translated text in akuma kun makai no wana,
But I have two problems 1 the game doesn't work with nesticle at all,
And 2 fce ultra will show me the hex codes of the text in the pattern tables,
But when playing the game fce ultra shows the on screen text as garbage.
So unless there is an emulator that can show the hex codes in the pattern tables and the on screen text with out any garbage I can't do it.
I have learned not to try and over write the text in the game, Instead I over write the hex codes thus keeping me from have problems with pointers and other typo's.

Um...if you're overwriting the hex codes, then you're overwriting the text. -_-;

Have you tried dumping the script?

Yeah, but in some cases the hex editor could over write the text with the wrong hex code,
So I allways change them myself instead of typing in over the text, Well at least thats a problem I had with dragon quest 1,
The hex editor put the wrong code in several different places,
And caused a bug that I can't correct because I don't know where it made all the changes at in the hex code.

Me don't know how to dump a script nor do I know what to do with it.
What script dumper program would you recommend for dummies.
What exactly does a script contain. Sorry I am not familiar with scripts.

The best tools for insertion and extraction are, unfortunately for newbies, command line-based. (I've been working with command lines since the days of the Amiga 500, so it's no big deal for me.)

Basically, extracting a script is the process of copying the game's text from the ROM into an ordinary text file. Romjuice is the best tool for this. Insertion is taking the modified script and putting it back into the ROM. Atlas is the best tool for this, but note that you can't simply turn around and put a script extracted with Romjuice back into the ROM. Atlas scripts need to be formatted, which is a time-consuming first step but saves you a hell of a lot of trouble with pointers and whatnot since you can simply use Atlas commands to tell the inserter when and where to write pointers. No troublesome recalculation, just all the free space in the ROM at your disposal.

Well I decided not to start a new topic since there already was one, But anyway I finally got around to it and made an English menu patch for Akuma-kun - Makai no Wana, which includes shops, the battle menu, the over world map menu, and even the clinic. There is a spell book which really it's more like an Icon Book, you buy Icons then combine them at another shop to learn Icon Spells that is combined spells, and you can then use them in battle too if you have enough Icons. 

I have submitted my patch but I shortly realized afterward that I had forgotten the over world menu so I now have an updated patch for that too,  In the mean time you can get the updated patch from my website here.

Well it's a Visual Translation just like the topic say's. I played it for over a year and a half in Pure Japanese to figure out how everything worked in the game for you.  And only made it in the hope that people could see what a unique RPG it is, and maybe someone might won't to make a more accurate translation after actually being able to play it in partial English. And basically I know how it all works in the game, and yes I used a dictionary too and used words that were fitting to the game.  It's not accurate because I had to use other wordings that fit the allowed amount of space.  To keep it clean and not mess anything up. There are not any bugs unlike my Dragon Quest patch. I learned a lot since then, and I really care about this particular game, and how it all looks. But translating the menu's was hard enough for me so I won't be doing anything else with it, there is still a lot there that has not be touched it just gives you a basic Idea of how to work everything in English.

That's what I was afraid of. That's more a hack than a translation. Putting in what you think something should be is not really translating.

Yes you are right and I know I'm an idiot for doing it that way. One these days I'll buy myself a brain and learn Japanese with it hopefully. I am still learning though so I'm not going to explain myself, or get angry because I know it's not really a translation. I think you have to do more than translate the menu's anyway to really call it a translation. Whether they are accurate or not.
