Why don't ya just get the script from the japanese but insert the translation into the english one? They already did the hacking for ya.

Eh, I could do that, but then that brings up the issue of "Is it a hack, or translation?"

Would I be allowed to call it a translation if I did that? Because if that's the case, I could very easily start the MQ project I've had on hold for a bit. ^_^

"Allowed"? It's your work.

You're not using rhdn submission-rules as a criteria to dismiss your own projects, are you? Tongue

I would prefer a translation project to be listed as such, if I have Suzaku bust his ass to do the work. The hacking work would be relatively similar in either case, except there'd be less ASM involved in using the English versions.

For CT, using the English version is NOT an option. Major ASM stuff is needed in their version too. Lufia and Mystic Quest, it would probably be easier to edit the English releases. Honestly, I think I'd rather edit the Japanese to learn stuff, but for ease of use, English would be the way to go.

And no, I'm not dismissing the projects. It's just on hold. I have a table made for MQ, and Tauwasser built me a program to extract the font. Taarna may be working on a font soon, or I'll just find one to mess with for now. All that's really left is to figure out the DTE in the game. As far as Estpolis II goes, I haven't decided to do it yet, I'm weighing the options. I'd love to do it, but it'd be one of the harder hacks to do right now (as NC said in another thread, I sure do know how to pick 'em)

The problem with inserting a translation of the Japanese text into an English ROM is that the US version of the game is missing code.

I think you completely misunderstood why we didn't want to label your CT news under translations. We don't care at all what kind of ROM you use for your stuff.

Oh yeah, by the way, I found out pretty much why you didn't find any text in the game. It's a tablefile issue and can most likely be resolved. I just went and looked at the font routine. PM me for details Cheesy

Lemme guess: the font isn't in the same order as the game's table, right?

Happened to me with Sylvanian Families.

Does this mean that if we were to translate Estpolis 2, and throw the translated script (along with the original Title screen and such) into Lufia II, it would actually be counted as a "Translation"?

Nope, it just uses some dictionary stuff and some other control-stuff Smiley

Yes of course, why not?

I'm thinking the reason your last CT hack wasn't a Translation hack was because it only did some menu stuff, and was pretty rudimentary, at least by translation standards. I don't think it had anything to do with hacking the English ROM.

Ah, true. Had I actually done more work on the English rom, it would've wound up more like an actual "translation", I Guess. But alas, you're right. I didn't do much to it.

Actually, if I remember correctly, it was this line

Quote
In terms of descriptions, most of those are ad libbed on my part, because the Japanese version doesn't have many, and the ones they do have, I can't read. But, I tried to make them relate to the item or technique in question as much as possible.

that got it counted as a hack.
