Correct me if I'm wrong, but nobody is doing any work nor talking about this project anymore.

I am going to consider this a failed project and delete this board unless somebody tells me otherwise with a good reason not to.

the discussion on vfs alone isn't worth salvaging at least a few of the threads?

I'd say salvage the informative parts, then dump the board. Given that there isn't even a script dump yet, and Gemini was the only person working on the hacking for almost the whole time (thereby defeating the purpose of the thing in the first place), I'd say it's pretty well dead. And it was such a good idea, too.

[BM 00] Script Thread
[BM 00] Tools Thread
[BM 00] The Virtual File System
[BM 00] Graphics Thread « 1 2 »

Ok.. so, let's save these 4 then. I didn't see any other threads with anything worthwhile in them.

Maybe we can save the 'shitty idea' thread for historical reference to an idea that was nice on paper, but ultimately failed like similar ideas in the past.

Is there a reason that this project is dying? I'm new to the boards, well, fairly new, and I only dabbled in this forum a bit. Lack of hackers to work on it? Lack of translators? etc.

It was supposed to be a community project--community members and translators banding together to each do their part, share ideas, etc. Eventually the entire process of doing a translation hack would be documented. it would have been awesome.

There was a lot of noise and apparent interest, but it pretty much devolved into everyone asking questions and Gemini actually doing work. I and a couple others maintained interest in translating it, but without any other hackers stepping forward it pretty muich died as a community project. I imagine that Gemini has his hands full enough with his own projects, and it's just plain not fair to expect him to do all the hacking on this.

It basically died not necessarily from lack of interest, but from lack of motivation. Which is a sad ending to a good idea, but wasn't entirely unexpected. (HINT: This is where Nightcrawler unleashes a ginormous "i told you so!"). It didn't even get far enough for a script dump.

It might take a long while, but I'll personally see this project to completion - without help from the community Tongue

I have no real say because I can't hack anyways, but I think you should have picked something on SNES or GBA. Easier to work with, and no "which file is the disk image" type questions.
But that's just me. Undecided\

Yeah, but one of the goals of the project was to further PSX hacking.

Actually there isn't such a problem. If you know how to use Winhex you can locate any file in the game's ISO in no time, just like on any rom based system.

I think we may have made a mistake. We decided on a psx project to further hacking in the area but we forgot that by picking a psx game we knocked out a bunch of people who don't have psx specific skills yet. It's a tough system to hack the way the memory and files are set up.

Yeah, you guys should have worked on Albert Odyssey for the SNES.  That way when the ASM kicks everyone's ass I can go to my evil base in Antartica and laugh evilly.

The project is officially dead now.

I moved the topics that had any useful information to this board. The others were deleted along with the board.

I have to admit I'm a little disappointed.. I really did want to help out with this, but PSX hacking is just a bit above my level. Tongue

Maybe one day when all of us are a bit more skilled, and Gemini's not the only PSX hacker, we will come back to this project..
