This is a fine game which is often overlooked do to the lack a color.

Anyways, I had made a color version of this game using the Game Boy Colorizer.

However, I tried to post the *.ips file to the Rom Hacks section to share in the community.  The unfortunate part is I have no url to host images, so I was unsuccessful in doing so.

If anyone is interested in helping to put up this fine color patch.  I would be grateful.  I have worked long and hard to make the color process work with the game.  It is completed to the end.  I would like others to enjoy this work.

The color version... I played one before that also colored it but my PSP's GBC emulator didn't have a clue as to what it was.

Maybe changing it from GB to GBC... ...

Photobucket.com or imageshack (?) are free subscription websites to host images... You can always try Megaupload.

Well I made it work, so I hope they post it within the next two days.

I used imageshack.  It was easy and straight forward.

Once the rom is patched you can rename the extension from *.gb to *.gbc if the emulator is having trouble finding it.

I did test everything, so hopefully all is well with my *.ips color patch.

If they do post it.  Please give the game a try and report back if you like the coloring or not.

I did complete the game to test all the colors.  The only scene not tested is when you get the Bikini ending.  I did not have time to try to complete the game for that ending.

I think there is more than three made.  I do believe I had found four at one time.  This does not include mine.  It doesn't matter.  I'm biased.  Although all the other one's are good.  I do believe what I did remains top notch work, thematically.  I did set a mood of actually spending time in a dark and gloomy cavern of a planet, where the monster hide in the walls, and attack at will.  I just liked my color scheme more than the others.  The lack of color variation, and playing more off the grey scale is where I was going.  I also tried to make the Samus suit closer in color as the original nes game.  If you notice or do not notice, I detailed the gun and suit as much as I could.  Do to graphical glitches occurring if the wrong items where colored, I could only put in so much detail.  I did try to give good coloring to the laser and missile attacks.  There is one background color change event.  It is fast.  Towards the end of the game, Samus has to blow a hole in the wall column to continue on the way.  When this occurs, I did change the color with the explosion.  It is rather neat.  This was a blast to do, so I'm really looking forward to others enjoying this color hack.

As far as I know, I am personally aware of three Metroid II colorizations- mine (the one that was included with the GBColorizer program), one I saw on Zophar's domain, and this one now.

One question-
Why is Samus' ship blue?

This is kinda re-inventing the wheel.

I just hope they do a remake of this game like with Zero Mission.  If not, I heard there are a few people trying to hack Zero Mission to make a "new" Metroid 2 GBA game.

This is nice work, but I don't like the blue ship too much, oh well it is a small detail.

I do believe I have successfully upload the file.

Please Enjoy!

Now I need to get this on the Rom Hack area.

zman, aside from the garbled submission issue, I nearly punched my computer screen with your submission in frustration. Wink

None of your links could be processed by our system. Unfortunately, mega upload files can only be got manually. Secondly, I don't know if it's the way you uploaded the images, or a new policy by image shack, but the imageshack links were not direct to the images either. They go to an image shack thumbnail page. Then, you had a title screen image, but it should have been in the title screen field. NEXT, your file was just an ips file. Why didn't you zip or rar it up for heaven's sake?

So, while a nice submission takes us all of under 30 seconds to screen and approve, yours took quite some time for me to to manually download, rename, upload, and organize, and add a working entry.

Before you submit anything again, contact me directly.

Um, no offense but you get the same amount of color from the original game when you play it on a gbc or gba.  I really don't see how this is that much of an improvement.

Once again I apologise for the troublesome submission.

As far as how the colors are.  Do to limitations of the rom and the colorizing program, only certain elements good be colored without effecting other elements.  So I only could manipulate a handfull of items.   Otherwise some things would turn out multicolored and or would crash the game.

Everyone is entitled to how they view my color hack.  Opinions, good or bad are appreciated in this aspect.

I did this project for fun.  The improvement lies within how this hack is viewed by the user.  Some will enjoy it, and others will toss it, or find a different path to the same thing.  So that's that...

As far as any other projects go.  I will certainly without hesitation contact Nightcrawler to begin with.  My only wish, is that I would of had this contact already.  I was rather unskilled and unqualified on the submission process...Sorry!

Please take away, what you will with this color hack.  I do hope many will enjoy it.

That's wrong. You said you used the GBColorizer, no? Using the GBColorizer's multiple palettes with Metroid II, literally every element can be colored individually. It doesn't "crash" the game either. The only side effects with colorizing Metroid II are the removal of the "fade" transition from room to room and the distortion of the Metroid Queen at the end of the game. These are inherent with how the GBColorizer operates and would still be present regardless of which elements were "colorized".

For example, in this shot, each element has been colored, allowing for complete usage of the entire GBC palette.
