Hey, guys. Can anyone please suggest an 8x16 font that would look good against a green background? In an ideal universe, it would be six colors, like the 16x16 original, as seen below: Basically, the text uses six colors, as it is antialiased slightly, blending from white down to silver. The background is part of the font itself (obnoxiously enough). Any suggestions?

Use bitmap font builder from our archive. You can do the shaded fonts with it and stuff.

I tried using that before, what format should I save the font in so that I can open it in a tile editor?

I think you'll have to just save it as a BMP and arrange it in a way that FEIDIAN likes, or manually edit.

Eh, I dun use FEIDAN. I probably should, but in my case (Chrono Trigger) it wouldn't matter, as FEIDAN hates the game I want to throw a new font into.

No fun. I think I might wind up having to slap a monochromatic white font onto that background. Not my first choice, but if it works...

Make sure you select the shading option for the font in the program. Then you going to have to rearrange the tiles an fit them to the right size.

Yeah, there's the problem. But I think I may have found a suitable choice.

If I were to want to use this to create a font for use in say...TLP, what file extension would I want it in?

Tile Molestor has better image importing functions. TLP has a habit of mangling palettes.
Just about any format should work: BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, etc.

I saved a font in .bmp format, and tried opening it in TLP. It not only doesn't support the format, but it also comes up weird when I forced it to open it anyway. Renaming it to a format that it supports (ie .nes) does the same.

*sigh* There's an "import BMP" or some such option in TLP. Use that.
The results still won't be pretty, though. Use Tile Molestor and save yourself a lot of trouble.

I'll give TM a try, if TP makes it look THAT horrible. Eh, I kinda figure'd there'd be an option, I just didn't check (stupid last few weeks of school...*Shakes fist*)
If I can get it to work fairly quick, expect some CT screenies with a few different fonts.
