I'm looking to do a translation that requires dubbing the voices, but I don't know of any Japanese PS1 games off my head that require voicework. Don't worry, I won't be doing the dubbing, HOWEVER, I'll be recruiting people from a very good unprofessional voice acting site.

Besides of Kamrai I don't know ANY untranslated PS1 games besides some semi crappy Anime games, voiced or not \. I know there are many, but somehow I all missed them. It would be cool if there was a site collecting these games so one get's an overview what's there to translate on that system in general.

Granted I could find those, I could definitely attempt them. Evangelion's popular too, so it's probably not going to be a big problem finding people to audition.

Dragonball Z: Idainaru Dragonball Densetsu. It's a nice game with loads of dubbed dialogues!

Rai, I'm not saying this to piss you off. Just listen. Attempting a translation that has lots of voiced dialogue can be a pain in the ass. You have to consider these problems: * The voices are stored in XA files, which are a bitch to distribute; * The voices are stored in a propietary, game specific format, which may be hell to reverse engineer, and you've already shown that you have next to no experience with -advanced- console hacking; And then there's the getting the actors themselves bit... I'm just saying, don't bite off more than you can chew. Mmmkay? Sorry.

Of the top of my head, device reign is one candidate. Whether it's really good..well it seemed like a decent SRPG too me when I tried it. You need to see for yourself.

I just don't think it would be a good idea to re-dub Girlfriend of Steel, if you were to choose a game. I'm moderately sure that a good chunk of the community feels sub > dub when it comes to NGE (most likely due to gunshot-slaps and pudding brainsplosions), and the visualization novels are no exception. Plus, you would have to take into account that you'd probably have to re-translate the entire game on your own, so as not to be stealing other people's work. Just work with redubbing one of your current projects at hand. And release both a dubbed and un-dubbed version, so all crowds can be appeased.

Knowing the translation community and how OCD fickle they are with this subject, I would NEVER even THINK about a vocal dub. No matter how good it is, people are going to shoot you down like a lame dog. Look at the modern video game scene. Are there ANY games that have come out that everybody agrees has good voice acting? Hardly any. People are do damn fickle and the Japanese purists will always shoot down the 'inferior' English dubbing. Being armature rather than a professional studio just makes the bullseye even larger.
I just wouldn't even bother. Subtitles will agree with everyone, dubbing will just get you alot of abuse most likely.
This topic has been discussed to death over the years. Subtitles win every time.

Simple solution: a translated patch with dubs, and a translated patch without dubs. Personally, I wouldn't care if no one downloaded the dubbed patch, I'd just do the dubbed patch because I want to see how it turns out. And believe it or not, there are actually people out there who do enjoy dubs.

You also have to consider that voice data is extremely heavy. Alpha Gaiden's voice track, for instance, is a full 300 megabytes - releasing a dub of that would be an absolute nightmare.

Hence my "Distributing will be a bitch" comment.

You could do Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius. You can even do it for SNES if you want and save yourself the "bitch of distributing."
