I looked in the ROM Hacks section and was surprised to find it devoid of bug fixes.  Given the amount of time since its release and the release of its translation, not to mention the amount of relevant information available (see gamefaqs.com cheat FAQs), one would think that square's inexcusable mistakes would have been corrected by a benevolent hacker.

For reference, here are the bugs I can recall either experiencing or reading about just off the top of my head:
-Critical hits exist but never occur.
-Random number generator sometimes gets stuck on giving the player the same item from certain item seeds over and over and so on and so forth.
-Opening the ring menu interrupts gameplay but not spellcasting.  Maybe not a bug, but clearly broken.
-Certain pieces of equipment are obviously meant to bestow immunities or resistances.  They do not.

Obviously I'm not here to nag or shame you ('you' romhackers, collectively) about it.  I'm trying to see if anyone is already doing this, or wants to do it and cares about it more than I do.  I turned up nothing searching the Personal Projects board.

Here's the extent of my enthusiasm for the job: unless I do this, I'm probably not going to play the game again.  It just pisses me off that Square left some glaring bugs in a game and charged money for it.  And it's a simple enough task that I can at least get SOMETHING done before I start tearing apart Brandish 3.  And I can still have a use for my 65c816 assembler before I start writing one for 16-bit x86.  Finally, if I don't hack something I'll burst into flames.

So if anybody knows something I don't, or if you want to fix the bugs yourself, speak now.  Otherwise, I'll be setting up breakpoints.

Although I'd like to see an actual rerelease of said game (although, I guess I'd get more of the same crap ports), not every game has the popularity of say FF6 to get the bugfix treatment. Usually these things are very related.

Assuming that this game was built upon SOM/SD2, then this is an inherited issue from the engine design.

Other than the obvious critical hit bug, this shouldn't shock anyone that expected a US/Euro version of this game. There are simply too many bugs (although of the FF1-ish type) that probably caused this game to never be brought over.
