Currently I'm experimenting with replacing the .STR movie files in a particular PSX game with home-made ones exported through Sony Movie Converter (read: the official dev-kit tools). The problem is getting the darned things to actually play. I've tried every single setup with no success, and even straight insertion is impossible because the tools don't export RIFF-CDXA headers. So far I've:
  • Just ripped a STR from the CD, converted it to uncompressed AVI with jPSXdec and VirtualDub, converted it back to STR with the tools and tried inserting it. CDmage tells me to piss off.
  • As above, but converted the new STR to Form 2 with Mode2CDMaker before insertion. CDmage accepts it (filesize is smaller though) but the game hangs when the movie's supposed to play.
  • Converted the AVI to a STR with 2 channels instead of one and/or MDEC version 3 instead of version 2 and/or having video and audio separate and merging them together during conversion. Still doesn't work.
  • Played around with merging the video and audio with the Movie Packer (i.e. putting each into a separate channel). Bet you don't know how that one ended.  :banghead:
So yeah, this one has me completely stumped, and Google hasn't turned up anything really useful (I've tried pretty much every suggestion I've come across, and most of it's to do with VCDs which is useless to me). I'd be glad if someone could point me in the right direction here.
