Hi! I'm working on a translation patch for Dragon QuestIX. I've done well so far. But I've got this problem.

I've found what it seems to be the weapons (items) names, which I want to translate. I opened the whole rom with crystaltile2 and extracted a .cn file. Checked this file and searched in it for lz77/huffman compression, it gave 1 result. Extracted it into a .bin file. There's the text.

My problem is, I just don't know how to put the edited .bin file into the .cn one again. I guess putting the .cn file into the rom should be no problem.

Here's the .cn file. http://www.sendspace.com/file/voh4lm

-_-

The game was released three days ago! It will get a US release! Why bother hacking it?!

Locking due to sheer madness.

Sorry, but we don't support or endorse 0-day translations here.

Oh, I understand. Thanks anyway.

Or.. don't endorse the translation. Can someone point me in the right direction?? It's not only for the game. I truly want to learn. If not, thank you guys.

I know why you can't do that.

Interesting, sounds like a kind of forum software bug.

When I started posting I.S.T. hadn't posted yet. I prepared my reply and also checked the box to lock the topic after the post. When I clicked on "Post" it stopped me with a warning that another post had been done while I was writing. I unchecked the lock box then and posted anyway, but apparently the first box had counted and actually unlocked the topic again.

Eh, could anyone follow what I was saying?  Shocked

yes. The topic was locked while you were in the middle of posting, and because you checked the Lock box(reference go!), it unlocked the thread. Doesn't sound like a bug to me, just normal behavior.

The bug is that it didn't actually post the message. After that warning message that the thread had been posted in I unchecked the box before I actually posted. You would think that such an option which performs something alongside posting would be executed only when a post is really made. Not a big deal anyway, I just found it curious.

My assumption it treated you like it treats everyone else that isn't aware the thread was locked. Once locally it is known that the thread is locked... a mod is allowed to post at that point in time.
