I have been playing Phantasy Star 4 for a while now and I have found out that there are two major bugs in the game.
-first, is that after you reach lvl 99 your stats begin to decrease -second, if someone in your party is supposed to leave after you beat a certain boss, and everyone else is dead, it counts as a game over.
I have been searching everywhere for a patch to fix these, as I have no skill in rom hacking. Does anyone know if a bug fix exists?

Technically, that's not a bug exactly. When you think about it, it's actually logical. The only issue is that usually under these type of instances there are checks to prevent this from happening (usually in the form of secret healing).

I agree with Deathlike2, as it's logical that would happen.

-first, is that after you reach lvl 99 your stats begin to decrease Actually, I guess that is what's suppose to happen. Even Sega said so. O:It is perhaps the first promotion of anti-grinding. The game didn't need that much grinding to beat it anyways. In fact, IIRC (similar to the original FF's late class promotion penalties to the Paladin and Ninja) certain character techs (both robots or whatever they were called) can potentially never maximize because of overgrinding. It's pretty obvious that the behavior is intentional. -second, if someone in your party is supposed to leave after you beat a certain boss, and everyone else is dead, it counts as a game over.
I agree with Deathlike2, as it's logical that would happen. Just to be clear, my comments are only suggesting that this is annoying behavior... games don't necessarily have to make special checks, but it is usually the norm to be able to progress after a successful boss battle. It just happens that under the proposed instance that it results in a Game Over, which by the game's design makes sense and doesn't really need to be fixed (just apply common sense really). It would actually be more of a bug that an dead party continues to roam instead! It reminds me of the FF6 solo character losing at the coliseum bug.

It reminds me of the FF6 solo character losing at the coliseum bug. 7th Saga also had an anti-grinding design (one or likely two forced fights against the other player characters. If the priest reaches level 42, he gains a spell that makes him pretty much immortal (Elixer. It recovers full HP AND MP, including the 120-point casting cost). (though FF6's bug wasn't at the coliseum. It was actually MUCH more obscure, requiring you to take a (voluntarily) single-member party around a long walk for no real reason. So obscure they didn't even fix it for the GBA remake, and they fixed the most infamous bugs.)

IIRC, Elixir is not used by the AI, so that's a relief. On the other hand, what you said is part-true. The original Japanese version (Elnard) had stat growth that increased over time. This was removed in the US version (7th Saga) for any active character in the main party, which meant that your starting character would almost never be stronger than the Japanese port's counterpart (the more levels that were gained, the differences become glaringly obvious in character fights) and in turn, opposing characters would be overpowered easily over time (it would be favorable to recruit them late in the game). When I was talking about FF6, I'm talking about the solo character party dying in the coliseum battle, but it did not trigger a game over (until you get into a regular battle). That's what I was comparing to... I'm not talking about other obscure bugs or behavior.

I know I probably shouldn't bump this old topic up... but I just wanted to say... MY CRY'S HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!!! XD I don't know if this topic had anything at all to do with the creation of this fix (because it probably doesn't) Eather way... As you can probably guess from the title of this topic, I asked if there was a fix for this bug (there wasn't) However, today i saw this!!! ^^ I would really like to thank Sixfortyfive for the creation of this fix http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/553/
