As usual, I'm the first to admit I know nothing about romhacking. But I kinda noticed something.
If Microsoft automagically decides to basically render SNESTOOL useless (I was having trouble with it reading SPCs anyways), a lot of us will be up crap creek without a paddle.
Is there/is someone working on a replacement for SNESTOOL that will run in Windows XP and later?

SNESTool does work on XP. Not a serious PROMBLE.

I'm on Vista, actually. I just said XP and later because some people hold onto XP for dear life.
And I'll try that alternative next time I need to, thanks.

Nothing of value would be lost. Lunar IPS replaces the patching part, and NSRT replaces everything pertaining to headers. What else can SNESTool actually do? (Certainly nothing with SPC's; maybe you misread SMC as SPC?) ...PROMBLES really is an impressive typo.

I meant to say SMCs. My blood pressure meds are hitting me pretty hard this morning.

And what do you need snestool for? Granted I'm not dealing a lot with SNES Roms but the last time I used this tool was propably over 5 years ago. To remove headers you can use NRST.

I didn't even know NSRT existed for working with headers, and the readme for the patch I was using said "use SNESTOOL".

SNESTool has several good copier related functions including 12Mbit ROM splitting and header abilities. I don't think anything has really replaced SNESTool as a better single utility when it comes to those abilities. NSRT can't do anything useful for copier use. It doesn't even generate anything but an empty header.

That being said, PROMBLES definitely wins my nomination for the name of any replacement.

I'm tempted to code the replacement myself, just so I can name it PROMBLES.

Actually, NSRT has its own header format as well (ZSNES and SNES9x use this to turn on certain peripherals automagically if detected).
