I've had on my mind for awhile that this might be a good starter project for translation projects. Because from what I've heard, N64 roms are rather simple to dump and edit, because they are simply textures (maybe even do a complete hi-res trans and improvement  Wink). But alas I am unable to speak or read Japanese. I don't think I need anything to be dumped, just list the translated words on a document. perhaps this request is a little too audacious. Any help will be surely appreciated.

What exactly would your part be in such a project? You say you can't translate and you say you want somebody else to get the script dumped... so?

In any case, you're totally wrong on many aspects. All text being textures only applies to a few games, not to this one. The font is even nicely compressed and would have to be edited for an English translation. And after that, who did you want to have your script translated? A SRW game usually has 2-4MB of text. Translators for that aren't exactly common. And even if you got all that text translated, for a menu heavy game such as SRW there is ton's of menu (ASM-) hacking to be done, which is especially hard on the N64 to do due to the lack of decent debuggers.

Oh, sorry I didn't know. what is a good project for beginners? because I'm really sick of reaping the wealth of other peoples efforts and not contributing. or is there nothing really I can do because I don't speak Japanese.

EDIT: checked the getting started link sorry for wasting everyone's time with this thread, lock it or delete it if you can.

No real need to be deleted in my eyes, good luck with whatever you pick up.

May I recommend opening up a tile editor, and just looking through stuff; as well as getting to know hex in general.  Generally just basic things that give you a feel for whats going on.
