I'm having a lot of trouble getting tmod2 to run using Windows Vista. Has anyone else got it to work, and if so, what do I need to do to get it running?

(Please don't turn this thread into a discussion of alternate programs.)

You tried running it in Dosbox?

Yes, it gave me an error message about DPMI. Since I'm going to be using tmod2 pretty frequently, I'd like to go the simplest route if possible, so let's consider dosbox a last resort.

DOSBox might be your best bet. The errors about DPMI are probably because you need to have a DPMI provider that is located in the same directory. If you download the binary distribution from http://clio.rice.edu/cwsdpmi/, extract the cwsdpmi.exe, and stick it in the same directory as tmod, it should work under DOSBox.

Thank you, I got it to work after doing that.

Still, if anyone has got it to work without DOSBox, please let me know.

tmod2 doesn't like XP either, the only way I got it to run right was by using DOSBox. I imagine Vista would be much pickier than XP because of its "increased security features". If, however, your only issue was the file prompt not showing up, my solution to that was pressing Alt+Enter to go out of Fullscreen, then clicking on the program on the taskbar to force the program to redraw the screen and be able to see the prompt.

Runs practically perfect for me in XP. I used to have problems where I'd have to hold down the mouse button when clicking open a directory or opening a file, otherwise it would crash/exit. For 40meg+ ISOs I used to have to hold down the mouse button down on the open button for about 10 seconds. Weird.

Since a fresh reinstall of XP, I haven't had those problems.

Hm... well, who knows, it certainly doesn't like MY Windows XP. :p

Worked fine on XP SP2 for me too. Here's the error that it's giving me on Vista:
