Hi all,
I was wondering if it is possible to dump a ROM to a SNES cart?

Would I need a special cartridge or could I use any old one?

Thanks for any info!

First off, dumping is the other way around: get a rom from a cartridge.
To flash a rom to a cart, you need a special cart, because the retail chips are writable only once (like a CD-R).

However, asking for such devices is not supported by the board rules, however, there are quite many people here that do own such a cart (in comparison to the rest of the internets anyway ;P).

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.

I have spent the afternoon reading up some more and see there are special carts or some people use EEPROM chips.

I see on a SNES cart there are 2 main chips...One being SRAM and the other being a Mask ROM chip.

Is it possible to find these mask ROMS blank/new? Is it possible to find a generic PROM that could be used?

I have found the solutions for using EEPROMS to be a bit rough and would just like to be able to desolder the ROM and put in my own chip....

Most people seem to use emulators to run their code so i am finding it hard to get info on the way I had in mind!

Thanks once again!

I don't know if you've seen this already, but you might find it useful: http://snesdev.romhack.de/som2.htm

Hi,
Thanks for the reply and link.

He is using a stack of EEPROMS - But the software he uses is interesting.

I just wonder if there is a generic PROM that can be used to replace the original SNES mask ROM?

 Shocked
