Could you at least tell us:
- What games are you trying to patch
- The hacks you want to use
- What patcher you used
- What emulator are you using

Header issue. The patches either want a header, and you are patching to a non-headered rom, or they don't want a header, and you are patching to a headered rom. If the readmes don't state it, then it's going to be a crapshoot, and you'll just have to try until you find the combination that's right.

The header is like the title of the game in ascii when veiwed in a hex editor right?

Absolutely not. It's used for a copier (which you aren't using) and are completely useless to an emulator.

Use NSRT to add/remove headers.

For Yoshi's Island, IIRC, the hack requires a non-interleaved ROM, which NSRT can fix for you.

I suggest you read the RHDN FAQ.

It's the first 512 bytes of the rom.

Technically, it's 512 bytes appended to the start of the ROM. If the byte size of the ROM divides evenly by 1024, then you have a headerless ROM. Otherwise, it's headered.

That's insertion then, because append is at the end by definition Cheesy
