Dearest rom-hacker community,
I'd like to inquire as to the possibility of doing one of the following within any release of Final Fantasy IV (DS, GBA, SNES, WSC, PSX, am I missing any?):
1) Replace the random stat bonuses from level-ups after Level 70 with predetermined stat bonuses tailored to each character.
2) Replace the general set of random stat bonuses with a modified version that eliminates the stat decreases.
I ask because I find the concept of your characters' stats going down as they increase in levels to be pretty counterintuitive, and I wanted to try to change it.
Comments are appreciated.
There are issues with what you are trying to do..
If you are trying to have specific level up gains like what occured previously (pre-level 70 gains), you will have to rewrite the level up routines and additionally move everyone's data over.
Also, if you're trying to have different gains on level up (like, gaining 2 points of STR and 1 point of AGI at a level up), you will need to use the GBA port (any maybe the PSX and WSC ports) as the SNES port is fixed to smaller set (it's a bit more restrictive). Again, that will require lots of work if you're rewriting the routines.
If you are simply trying to remove the negative stat growth, those tables certainly can be altered to favorable possibilities or one fixed set of stat growth. In any case, it will require work to expand the current working system.
