I'm fairly close to having the basic stuff I want done in FFIV:ET. Menus are almost 100%, I have a few extra tidbits I want to put together first. Battles are untouched as of yet, I've got 100% of the items translated and inserted, 100% of the magic, about 90% of enemy names, very little enemy attack names, and about 90% of map locations.

Would it be worth it to release an alpha patch to show off all of the ASM work I've done thus far, or should I just wait until it's closer to being finished before I bother?

You know where to find me for your testing needs.  Tongue

Did you get the battle background thing fixed?

Wait, is this a touch-up/bugfix/translation? Or did this change any plot or events?

Yeah. I re-applied all of my ASM, and the bug didn't resurface. Dunno why, but everything's fine on that front.

This is a translation of FFIV:ET, but it will also eventually branch out to becoming an FFIV translation as well. No bugfixes. Lots of ASM work has been done to get translations to fit in as best as possible. Think J2e's FFIV translation, but I plan on having it be bigger and better. You can also read the link in my profile for more details.

This isn't going to be like... a private test or anything, if I do it. It'll just be a public patch to let people play the game and see what I've done. There will likely be no dialogue, as I don't have a dedicated translator yet. I might insert two small portions of the intro that I plan on getting translated soon, I dunno.

Easy Type.

A Japanese re-release a few months after the original release, due to complaints the original was too hard.

I thought it was more their first attempt at a beginner's RPG (which would also cover the too hard aspect), considering how most of the equipment and monster names went from being English words to Japanese.

from what i've read here and on slick, it seems that you've done a lot of asm work on this, amongst other things, so i'd definitely like to see it. Smiley

have you ever contemplated making a hack of ff4?  jce3000gt's is the best(well... only?) full hack of that game with quite a bit of stuff changed/made harder.  his v2.0 is gonna be pretty amazing!  with your skills, i could definitely see you making something very entertaining, as well.

Thanks for the compliment. ^.^

I've thought about it. Once I release the two patches (one for FFIV:ET, one for FFIV), I thought I'd do one for FFIV that would include all of my previous work, and that would update all of the items/enemies and whatnot to what would be considered "most recent", from both FFIV:DS and the latest FF titles. Perhaps re-balancing a few things, and removing some bugs. But that's all I've thought of doing.

Though, the idea of making a new story with FFIV wouldn't be a bad idea. And I've always wanted to play as DK Cecil more... >.>

I would rather you did a faithful retranslation using FF4 DS as a base, to be honest, if you were going to draw material from it.

[Mainly because the 'best' translation to date is FF4 Advance's, and FF4A is still full of issues.]

Perhaps that could be something I do as a 'hack', using the best translations offered to the US market. But for FFIV/ET I want to use the original SNES script, I'm sure the DS script has been changed since the SNES iterations.
