Hello friends,

first of all, sorry for my bad english. I'm from Spain and when I make a translation I use a translation tool or dictionary... no for my own Embarrassed

Whe are translating Sega Saturn's Panzer Dragoon Saga. We have the script of the first CD 100% completed, and we have understand how works the pointers, no problems

The problem is the font of the game. We think that we have the file with the game font, is the file ascii.cgz. We are sure because when we mod this file this is the result:

As you can see the file have the CGZ extension, and for sure is compressed. We can't acces to the file in a graphic editor (like tile molester) because is compressed or encrypted and we can't see anything of the caracters...

We need help, please. how can we access modify the font or the characters table to modify it and add special caracters (like ñ, é, á, etc.)

I try to find any documentation, but there is not much documents about Sega Saturn translation games...

Please, help us!!!

Thanks in advance Wink

When this patch is finished. The patch is going to be for the $30 japanese version, rather than the $300+ us version, right?  Grin

I imagine it'll be the English version, as it's easier to find on the web...

Interesting. I got the file but it's all gibberish to me.

Is there an emulator with a VRam viewer? The uncompressed font might shed some light on this...

I think the best you can do is yabause or SSF.

I might be way off, but I can't help but notice that the filename makes it sound like it's gzipped. Maybe try running it through gunzip?

I tried that with WinRAR (adding .gz to the filename), doesn't work.

Yes, seems GZIP, in fact I think that this extension is used in Linux... But I try too, and don't work, in some cases the name of the file and the extension is only to confuse us Grin

But don't worry, we have it!!!

TascoDLX from Segaxtreme has discovered that the compression is LZ77-based and wrote a decompression routine for us

We workin on it. Thanks for help!!!

P.D: We can make an entry for this project in this page??

Dude, congratulations! Is that the entire font, though? It looks like some letters are missing from the small font at the top.

(I want a copy of this font so I can add it to my font archive!)

Hmm, is it plain deflate (the algorithm used by gzip)? it's LZ77 based. I messed around with gzip and zlib last night and I didn't find anything. I was gonna let you know, but it seems you've got it. Congrats.
