Wow... I actually found something cool for once!

I was reading through the entire Stage load routine from stage select to the screen being redrawn...
....

Turns out i was messing wtih one of the values loaded that tells which stage to load when ice stage is selected.... and I found a stage that the game doesnt use! It has Vile in it and is fully functional to my knowledge!

Directions:
-In a headerless rom the address is 0x031C15 . Add #$07 to the value at that location and you'll get the hidden stage! I have yet to try it myself I was just astonished so I had to mention it here.... Maybe there are more, who knows...

Enjoy

Edit: Apparently this is fairly known as it is the way to get the Z sabre from what I have read... Well so much for that! At least if ya want you can change which selection goes to which stage Smiley

On a side note while browsing through weapon code I found that the G.Crush or somthing is still lingering in X3 from a previous X2 or X game... There are numerous things left from the previous two games in the series... If only I could find the hadoken and shoryuken haha.

Mega Man X3 does have a level with Vile in it. I can't remember how many bosses you have to beat for it to show up (maybe 2?) but after a while you can find hidden transporters to take you to the Vile level. It's pretty short, there's an elevator shaft to climb before fighting Vile, then you have to escape during a self-destruct sequence.

Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdPEJ24q6ZI

EDIT: Yep, it's just the Vile stage. You can access it via hidden teleporters in Blizzard Buffalo's, Crush Crayfish's, and Volt Catfish's stages. But still, now you know how to change Blizzard Buffalo's stage.

Also, I accidentally changed the value to #$07 instead of adding it, and I turned Blizzard Buffalo's stage into Tunnel Rhino's stage.

Wow I cant believe I never noticed that!

Plus it seems like G.Crush or whatever I found was just the meter for the Golden Armor arm chip... Bah humbug. All this assembly is making me CraZy

Yeah, all these little things are why I consider X3 to be the best of the X series.

I should take another look at that rom since I know more about ASM from the last time I checked.  I think I also have some rom locations bookmarked too.

I didn't like x3 because of how many freakin spikes there were in all the stages. Made playing Zero pointless because I didn't want to lose him on ONE hit.

Yeah, that's true, and Zero was executed really poorly. Shame they didn't go for the X4 route a little sooner, as X3 with a fully playable and unique Zero would have been great.

Speaking of Zero and little known things, if you skip X's arm cannon upgrade the Z-Saber works more like Zero's when you get it. The energy wave attack is gone, but you only have to charge up to level 3 to use it, which makes it much faster to use. The saber still kills anything in two hits, so I actually prefer it to the upgraded saber because of how fast you can get those two hits in.

I'd love to see a hack that made him fully accessible as a playable character without the whole single-life restriction. Or even better, a boss rush mode using only Zero.

Seriously? Sweet! I'm going to try that out right now.

Zero's just not very fun, I used to have a PAR code that would make him fully playable, including being able to use subweapons. He lacks the mobility options X has, his only way to evade attacks is to dash or dash jump and his size even makes that more dangerous than doing it as X. He takes more damage than armored X and his Z-Saber is too powerful, it's the same as when you use it as X, two hits to kill anything. If the saber was nerfed, he took the same damage as armored X, and he was given the air dash that alone would make playing as him more fun.

I too initially thought Zero would be awesome, but really he doesn't make the game any more fun. Maybe when I get a good level editor out someone can utilize him better. Some custom sprites specific to X and Zero I'm sure would take care of that haha. But then again this game IS CALLED MEGA MAN X 3 not ZERO 3.....

Oh and JigglySaint if you still have that data could you send it to me or post it for me? I think a while back you gave me a zip or somthing with it all in it, but I am not sure that I know where it is if you did in fact give it to me  Undecided\. It may help alot! If anyone else has anything feel free to donate to me! X and X2 are practically the same and those datas would help too...

If I get around to it, then yeah I'll give you what I got.  I jump projects way too fast, and I have a legion of rabid Equinox fans who want me to release my patch of level 2 since I haven't started on 3 yet.
