Hey everyone. I was playing Seiken Densetsu 3, or Secret of Mana 2, lately and got kinda annoyed with one thing. It's the fact that everything pauses when you cast a spell. You can't move and have to watch the spell animation everytime. This is different from the previous game because before you could cast the spell, and then move around to hit other enemies while the spell was in animation.

What I was wondering is if it would be possible to make the game not freeze when a spell is cast. In other words, make it more like the previous game. However, in Secret of Mana, I do recall it doing the same thing, but only if your magic was up to level 8:99, or whatever was the highest level. Any input would be cool. Thanks.

Anything is theoretically possible, but my impression is that this would be so difficult that for all intents and purposes it would be impossible to do.

(Although this should be taken with a grain of salt; although I've done a fair amount of programming I've never hacked a ROM.)

i imagine it would be possible, but you'd have to be a seasoned veteran to do it.

a somewhat easier hack might be to make the game less frustratingly difficult and/or annoying. i didn't pick kevin the wonder boy, so i was always feeling a bit underpowered. not a bad challenge, though, right? yeah, except when enemies use spinning sword/vacuum blade/whatever multi-target tech the moment i walk onscreen and take out like 90% of my HP -- instant game over if you weren't healed up. (for any of you that never played SD3, you get to use techs when you've landed a certain number of hits on enemies, and the tech gauge empties out whenever you change screens. but of course enemies apparently suffer no such restrictions.) and then bosses, oh god. they would take FOREVER, and god help you if they ever used a tech.

secret of mana was the opposite in that you could cheese bosses with magic to the point of ridiculousness. somewhere in between would be nice Tongue
