Hi guys, I know I'm new but I'm wondering what you guys would think about translations that use already hacked version of games...  Let's say for example a Chinese team converted a Japanese GBA Rom into Chinese, and I use that version to translate from Chiense to English.  I want to know if it'll be easier to mod the already pirated version or just write a new code...

That would really depend on the game...

That said, this is something of a gray area here, so tread carefully.

And it ought to be noted that HK bootleg subs are translated from Japanese to Chinese and then back into English. So yeah, it's probably better overall to just translate the Japanese version from scratch.

If you can only translate Chinese then of course the actual translating will be easier for you. The technical aspects on the other hands most likely won't be any different. Beware though that there is usually a lot of translation quality lost in translation through two languages.

Here's an analogy because I am sleep deprived and think it's very funny.

This is the script in Japanese:

This is the script after a lengthy and involved localization process:

Haha, that's fantastic. It actually sums things up quite well.

All right thanks for the comments, I'll tell you if I start any projects..., technical points aren't really difficult (my parents are computer programmers and I've learned how to do this stuff since I was pretty young)...
